I wonder how loud that was. I was at an air show once and 2 F-14s took off and went vertical. We were on the taxi way, about a 1/4 mile away from the runway. I couldn't even hear myself think.

Yeah but if that didnt excite you, make you feel proud and patriotic, you better check your pulse. 😀

Air shows are the best but were better when the Jets were allowed to break the sound barrier. Too many complaints about broken windows but imagine the fighter going by BEFORE you hear it.
 
omg, the pilot broke the sound barrior that close to the crowd?

I recall seing a diagram (side view) of a plane breaking the sound barrior, and that's pretty much what it looked like --the plane's nose at the tip (or just breaking through) of a cone-shaped energy wave.


maybe it wasn't, but that's freakin' awesome!

It may or may not have been going mach 1 or higher. It's easier to create that vapor cloud at lower altitudes.
