Cool video on workers vs pay

So we need to slash CEO pay if we want to improve our competitiveness.

Edit: Finished the video. I agree with what the speaker is saying. When working on BS, I don't work as hard as when working on worthwhile projects.

It may seem counterintuitive to economists but it makes sense to me. When I'm working on something that interests me even if I'm not getting paid for it I'll work harder than doing some BS at work that is pointless. Very interesting video though, thanks

Neat. Kinda crossed my mind that a pretty good example of this in a way is the US / NASA space program in the '60s. Granted I do not know what they were paid etc...but I always got the feeling that all of those people stepped up and did some amazing shit even if it wasn't making them rich. It was awesome, it was fun, and it made them feel good.

This is why I obtained a degree in chemical engineering. All of the companies I interviewed with really allow self direction with your careers and lots of self directed problem solving.

I never have had a dull day at work during internships.

they had a little of that in the freakonomics film as well.
incentives can be perverse in their results.

My 14 years working hard labor in welding shops gave me more job satisfactions then the past 10 years of working on computers.

Its not that I made more money in the welding shops (because I did), when the day was finished, I had something to show for my work. There is a sense of satisfaction from building something, being creative, creating your own solutions to problems. As compared to following a script like working on computers.

There is a lot to be said for allowing creativity in jobs, and there is more that motivates workers then just money.

Very good video though, thank you.

I thought you said wedding shops at first, lol.

Interesting video. Ultimately something has to be involved though that allows for a standard of living. Possibly the people that get involved have the skills / materials / etc provided for the people for the things they need, and that is THEIR interest.

It is true though. When I'm interested in something I do at work, I don't care about the hours because I'd like to be doing it anyway. Can't get more simple than that.

Also I like the artist in this video. Really interesting video all around.
