I never understood why anyone would pay $200, much less $500 for a pair of sunglasses. I usually break mine within a month or two.

whatever you do, make sure to get sunglasses that block the UV (and whatever other) rays.

you would find yourself taking better care if you paid more, in all likelihood.

i was truly amazed how long i had those glasses

I read somewhere that those cheapo sun glasses lacked a lot of features essential for good eye care, not just UV prorection. I may be a little off, I'll try to supply a link as soon as I find it.

The silliest thing I ever did see... I was in the mall, walked by the sunglass hut place, and I noticed a pair of *clear* sunglasses. Cost? 450 some odd dollars... Clear Sunglasses? I even went over, and put them on...it was like looking through...you guessed it...clear glass! I don't know...maybe they had some ultra special 5th-dimension UV blocking capabilities..... I have never really had the need for $500 glasses... not when you consider how easy they are to get lost, stolen, broken, scratched.... etc. Maybe it's just me

I would have to say it really depends on your face. But I Like Rayban sunglasses, the aviator style. Also, some sunglass place sells those RIMLESS sunglasses....those are cool.

Oakley Fives.

About 60 for non polarized, 100 or so for polarized. They fit like a charm, block out all the UV stuff, and their style prevents any other light from getting into your eyes (as in light that does not pass through the lens). Any sunglass store in a mall will have them. I have these and a $120 pair of Oakley A Wire 2.0s and I prefer the Fives much more then the higher priced ones, with the main reason being the way the Fives don't let any light in around the edges of the frames.

Edit:
Oh yeah, another perk of Oakley glasses is you get a 1 year waranty to replace them for free if anything happens to them, and after that its only $20 to get the frames replaced with brand new ones, and $30 if you want new lenses. So pretty much if something goes wrong you pay a bargan brand price to get all new Oakley quality parts.

YOU DONT WANT FAKE OAKLIES!!

The lens quality is total garbage. If you never owned good sunglasses you really cant understand what I mean but I will try... the lens quality on good sunglasses don't just make it easier to see, they filter out unneeded light. Bargain glasses just make things real dark and harder to see. With the lenses I have I can wear them until dusk and still see fine. If I try my friends $4.99 7-11 brand glasses I wouldn't be able to see a thing.

Once you start using good glasses be warned though, your eyes will adjust to them and you won't be able to exist with out them. A cloudy day is too sunny for me now. But with the ease I can see through my lenses and the amount the protect my eyes it's well worth it.

Look Here, I live in Florida (the sunshine state.. Duh!) and I have been wearing Smiths for years. They are much more durable than Oakleys and many models have interchangable lens system so that you have dark, yellow and amber lens for different conditions and many have defogger vents plus they give you more for your money and have a bunch of cool styles ;)

I tried distancing myself from good sunglasses and it just didn't pan out. I have very accurate vision and the cheap plastic used in the low end glasses really bothered me. I currently have a pair of Revo's with real glass lenses (polarized).

Ray-Ban Wayfarers are by far the best high quality optic sunglasses for the money. Get some polarized ones for driving. I would also recommend that if possible you find some with spring hinges. Spring hinges make a big difference in the lifespan of sunglasses that have metal frames, the frames won't get bent out of shape as easily.

If you go with plastic sunglass frames you might need to periodically tighten the small frame screws.

I bought my GF a pair of Oakley C wire's less than a year ago as a gift. She took excellent care of them and the frames still fell apart. On an up note, Oakley did replace the frames under warranty, but I was less than impressed with the build quality for a pair of $160 glasses.

well i bought a pair of scars, by oakley
unfortunately my wife was with me, and she insisted that i buy her a pair of juliets, also by oakley
they're both pretty sweet shades

Another vote for Oakley's, I got the pre-Fives which were called the Oakley FrogSkins. I picked up a brand new pair for $45 from eBay, there were a lot of fake Oakleys but mine are the original Oakley's. Oakley.com wanted $85 plus shipping for these shades!

DO NOT BUY FAKE OAKLEYS WHATEVER YOU DO.

A lot of them don't even block the UV, which is why they're so cheap. You only have 1 set of eyes, if you're going to buy sunglasses, buy ones that will protect them.
