Cool running 2.5" SATA?

I have a 2.5" SATA media player for my daughter but the 5200rpm 160gb SATA drive I use in it seems to get a bit hot for my liking. This media player can run all day so I don't want the drive or player to overeat and burn up. It can use SATA 2.5" drives, SD cards and USB flash memory.

Aside from SSD's which are way too expensive and low in space, what options are there for a reasonable cost storage solution that won't get blisteringly hot? I tried to get an SD card, but unfortunately it turned out to be a fake 32gb as it's actually a lowly 4gb card rebadged. I have the same concern about fakes with USB flash, plus larger capacities are still pricey. I wonder if there are any 32-64gb SSD's in the fs/ft section for a reasonable price?

Where did you buy that?

Sadly, ebay. Ebay pulled the seller's account there and Paypal so now i'm stuck with a 4gb card at best and no recourse. Glad they contacted me when they suspected fraudulent activity.

Hmm, I think the drive i'm currently using is a Travelstar. I need to doublecheck though, it might be a Toshiba, I can't remember which I tossed in there.

Lotsa that going on there.

If you were satisfied with that type of format, I'd try again with a reputable seller.

What case are you using?

it's a 2.5" SATA HDD case with built in media player. Unfortunately unlike the typical sata case, the way the drive mounts insulates it and allows everything to overheat.

Somewhat yes, it's hard to explain without pics and I'm lazy.

My concern isn't so much the drive, it's the heat generated by the drive causing the video player itself to fail. Once again, cheap Chinese goods and poor design FTL.

I think my next step is going to be something along those lines. I might chop a hole in the bottom, mount some "legs" on it and put a fan in there.

I currently have at my disposal:
Toshiba MK1637GSX 160GB
Hitachi HTS543225L9A300 250GB
SEAGATE ST9120821AS 120GB

They are all 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s except for the Seagate, which is 1.5Gb/s. I think i'm leaning towards using the 160GB as the 250GB is my main USB HDD for storage and transferring of files even though it may be the coolest running one. The 120GB runs hot in my laptop so I don't think I want to use it either.
