Cool & Quite of AMD64 3000+

I am using the Cool & Quite function of my AMD64 3000+ 939 90nm CPU on the ASUS A8v Delux MB.

From AMD's Cool & Quite software, the frequency of my CPU is always 1000MHz, and I never saw it change to 1800MHz, even though when I gave the CPU tough task, such as video encoding.

My understanding is the CPU frequency will adjust automatically depending on what task it is runing. Am I right? If so, why I never saw the change og my CPU frequency?

BTW, before I enable the Cool & Quite function the CPU frequency is 1800MHz.

Thanks a lot for your attention and help.

Yes, it SHOULD change clock speed based on whats being done, but I've seen lots of people with issues with it. Hell, they run so quiet and cool to begin with, why bother?

You should try setting your power management scheme to "Minimal Power Management" for the Cool n' Quiet feature to work. At first mine wouldn't either, but now it does. It reduces your CPU's speed and voltage, to reduce power consumption, heat, and extend the life of the CPU.

I think my Cool & Quite function is working.

My concern is when this function works, my CPU frequency (1000MHz) is always lower than normal value (1800MHz), no matter what kind tough task I run on it.

So, looks like this 'advanced' C&Q function "always" loweres down my CPU performance........

Cool & Quiet automatically lowers your CPU's speed and voltage, making the system cooler and quieter because now the CPU fan doesn't have to spin quite as fast (some people report the fan stopping, that's how cool the CPU gets). You may need to install the AMD Cool & Quiet software and possibly the updated CPU driver to get it working as well as tinkering with Power Management settings.

Looks like my post was misunderstood by everyone.

My cool & quiet function is running ok, since I installed the software and driver and also other settings according to the motherboard manual.

What I mean is: this function does gave me cool & quiet effect, but it always fixes my CPU frequency to 1000MHZ instead of automatically adjusting it depending on the task.

you have to close and reopen the system properties page for it to show the new frequency... my 3000+(2gig) clocks to 1gig with cnq turned on... with a heavy task, it shows 2ghz...

Open CPU-Z then run prime95 torture test, then you'll see it go to full speed.
