I have an AMD A64 3500+ (Venice one of the new CG stepping I believe) and cool n quite seem not to work. I looked up an installation guide on the AMD website and did everything it said but it's still not working. I had Cool N Quite set on Auto in the BIOS, installed the latest AMD CPU driver and have the power option in WinXP set to Minimal power.

I'm checking to see if it work with an AMD utility called "AMD Power Monitor". The clock always stay at 2200 mhz no matter what the CPU utilization is.

Just to double-check, could you try a utility called CPU-Z and verify that C&Q isn't working?

BTW, are you overclocking? C&Q doesn't work reliably if you are not using the default multiplier and Vcore in the BIOS.

Lastly, it could be a BIOS revision issue. Make sure you are using a current BIOS for your board.

Just checked. Sitting there for a while with 0 CPU usage, CPU running at 2210.3 MHZ, 11x multipler, 1.42v.

I'm not overclocking.

You're not alone. I have a k8t800 board where c & Q only works with xp. It doesn't work with win2k, even with power management set to "minimal power management".

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? It's a real hassle having to turn the clock down in BIOS each time I want to leave the computer on overnight.

its because amds software blows.

this thread may help you. its original intent was to show you could oc with CnQ but it works anyway. just use the amd driver which you have already and then control it with rmclock.

Just tried it. Followed every steps, didn't do anything.

There's no Cool n' Quiet driver/software for WinXP right? Just the CPU driver that include CnQ? I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything. At the AMD support site there seem to be CnQ driver for Linux and WinME/2000 but nothing for WinXP so I assumed that it's part of the CPU driver for WinXP, but I could be wrong.
