Hey all,

Anyone know how to check or to get Cool n Quiet to work on the Opteron 165?

I am using an eVGA NF4 SLI mobo.

I have my power settings set to minimal consumption and when I check my comp properties, it still shows the clock at full speed.

I can't get AMD dashboard to check like I did when I had a venice 3200+.

All help is appreciated.

ok, cool. thanks for the rmclock, rise.

I now know that my cool n quiet is not throttling my opteron 165.

Anyone have success getting it to work with the opteron 165?

I had serious issues (BSODs at the most inconvenient times) with CnQ so I disabled it. From what I've read on the AMD forum and also been told by Tyan's tech support, CnQ is pretty much a work in progress. It works for some and not for others. I'd forget about it.

From AMD's website:
Components of a Cool'n'Quiet? Technology-Enabled System
Cool'n'Quiet technology needs several system components:

* An AMD processor with Cool'n'Quiet technology ? AMD originally developed this technology specifically for its AMD Athlon? 64 processors
* A variable speed fan equipped heatsink, which adjusts rotation speed depending on the air temperature inside your computer's case
* A motherboard with a supported BIOS ? check your motherboard manufacturer's website for specific details
* Extra system software and tweaks, which depend on the operating system used ? with Windows® 2000, for example, you need a Cool'n'Quiet driver in addition to the Cool'n'Quiet application; with Windows XP you need a Cool'n'Quiet driver, Opteron Drivers, and to set the system to ?minimal power management? in Control Panel, Power Options.

thats why i went to rmclock, the amd software is problematic by most accounts.

using rmclock with the amd driver only, i didn't have to enable cool n quiet in the bios on my board. some do but its not necessary.

then i used ITE smart guardian (because thats whats on my mobo driver disk) to monitor and adjust the cpu fan if necessary. of course, i had a zalman 7000cu then so i really didn't need to adjust the fan.

but it was nice running 6x250 @ 1.1v at desktop and have it kick up to 11x250 @ 1.54v when i loaded it.

Taking this one step further, I can't even get the AMD driver to be recognized by the Opteron 165. I am stuck with the Microsnot driver dated in 2001. Any idea to even get the driver to allow CnQ to work? Thanks much!
