Cool n Quiet and Overclocking

With the setup in my sig, my idle is about 34C and load in dual Prime is about 47. Just for the hell of it, I thought about turning on Cool n Quiet so that it wont stress the processor 24/7 since I keep my computer on all night almost on a regular basis while downloading torrents etc. Before I screw with using it with my 9x300 overclock, I thought I'd ask if this route was adviseable and if there were any potential risks.

As you probably already know, if you're overclocking with a different multiplier than stock, then that's going to force you to use RMclock for CnQ to work properly.

RMClock is a great utility and very easy to use... once you guess how (not much in the way of docs)! I actually prefer it to CnQ since it gives you much more control and is rock solid stable.

When I had my system overclocked and was running CnQ, I had to increase the voltage by a percentage amount instead of an integer value in the BIOS.
I've decided to take the overclock off for now, I haven't had time to push my system in a couple months.

C&Q will be fine, if im correct in thinking that 9 is the stock multiplier for an opty 165. I have C&Q turned on with my opty 170 @ 2.5ghz, it runs fine.

You should be perfectly fine with ocing and cNq at the same time.

I have a 3800+ X2 @ 2600mhz. I keep cNq on 24/7. It throttles from 1300mhz to 2600mhz and there are absolutely NO problems.

I am NOT using any special app or anything either. Others oc with cNq with no problems either.

The only thing I can think of is the cNq oc speed may not have enough voltage. But I haven't seen anyone with that problem.

As long as you use the "add xxx%" voltage, instead of just setting the volatge manually (not having it set as auto), you will be fine.

Cool n Quiet overclocks only work if your using stock voltage and multiplier for the most part. It will allow for seperate voltage overclocks, like add 100mv or something, but CnQ takes over your actual voltage regulation.

For example, my Opteron 170 runs at stock voltage with a speed of 2667. I enabled CnQ and when Im doing anything CPU intensive I get a speed of 2667, otherwise, my voltage drops to 1.15 and it only runs at 1333. It works perfect in prime for long periods of time, and drops to idles of 28-40 depending on room temp (no airconditioner, so room seen temps from 60-95 degrees F)

Basically CnQ will work just fine for overclocking (dont forget to turn on minimal power management). It just gets more difficult if you arent using stock vcore.
