whoa! were you there? how'd you know? ;)
awesome guitar on ready to talk vocals could use some more emotion sounds like he is high. which are you?
guitar AND vocals. you win some, you lose some, i guess. :D i had never sung before playing in this band and all these recordings are a year to 1.5 years old, so i'd like to think i'm a little better now.
Tell your engineer to turn up the fader on the vocal a bit
We engineered them ourselves. they were just recorded in our practice space. We'd never recorded anything "for reals" before, so mistakes were bound to be made. I hear that the vocals sound too low from just about everyone I talk to, but I still disagree. I think what people are responding to is that, for the most part, the vocals have not been doubled or processed or anything like that, which, besides compression, are the most common "pump ups" for vocals that I hear in "pro" recordings. The more and closer I listen to other recordings out there, I'm finding that even records that I thought had really straight, clean vocals actually use a lot of doubling, delay, reverb, etc. So on our next, we'll be using some more of that ourselves, as well as better equipment. and hopefully better performances, too. ;)

Reverb is almost a must on vocals as it adds depth (I like to say it gives you your "In the shower" voice :) ). An engineer I once knew liked to use the singer/drummer rule. The fader on the singer should be about the same as the drums, then the guitar/bass fill in the background. If your guitarist has an ego and wants to be heard that's what solos and pauses are for heheh.

we almost played there once. a band asked us to play with them at the last second. when we got there it turned out they hadn't promoted at all and the only people there were some of our friends that we brought. the venue just canceled the show. the worst part was they were all pissed at US, like it was somehow our fault that we didn't pack the house with 1 day's warning.

They played with toNavigate and Disfunction later though. It was pretty packed.

well they have label support, they ought to be able to bring people. they just didn't bring a single soul to that show. the worst part was having us play was paying back a favor we did them when we had them play a show we booked in oakland. they brought zero people to that show, too, and they didn't promote for that one, either. lazy asses.
