"sofia and i" is wrong because if you remove "sofia and," it still needs to make sense. you don't put up a picture and say "i". you say "me".

that's why i cringe everytime someone says something stupid like, "james went to the store with tony and i."

Actually it's ambiguous in this case.

I mean you could think of it as "This is a picture of Sofia and me"--using 'Sofia and I' in that sentence would be incorrect since "I" cannot serve as the object of a preposition.

Alternatively, you could think of it as being some non-descript noun-phrase, in which case it should probably take the nominative case, and then "Sofia and I" would be correct.

I'd argue that both are legal here.
