Cool Demo..

It's just an example of like multimedia development talent - "demos" usually have cool or interesting graphics, sound, music, etc. I personally don't think this one is worth getting DX8 for.

Doh!

I thought I had DX8 installed all this time! I should be on the show Jackass setting screwdrivers on fire and throwing them at hot air balloons or something! 😉

Anyways, this demo is great! 30,000:1 compression??? OMG! MS should seriously consider this. Whistler could install with floppies! 😀

The soundtrack is nice too. Looks like I'll have to rip it.

Cheers!

There isn't actually 1 GB of data being "stored"....in total, 1 GB of data is being used throughout the program - a few hundred megs of video memory to render and update the scene, the stream of audio data being sent to the sound card, etc...in that sense there is a total of 1 GB of data, but it's not all stored...it's dynamic

I love those Demos... I wish I could find the ones I was collecting... 🙁
Does anyone have any more? I love playing them at LAN parties.

[edit]😱 Wow cool Pretender![/edit]

so is this thing worth downloading or what? is it a scam or something? lol

i think im gonna go ahead and try it out anyways..it wont crash my system =) duron 800@1000, voodooo5, 512mb of infineon ram, pro2-a and so on =) if it crashes my win2k, then im gonna cry haha.

It's just a cool program ... it 'does' nothing to your system except display a few graphics and play some music for a few minutes. You can get out of them at any time by pressing escape. It's never crashed a system that I've seen, but if it does, it's probably a driver issue.

No, it's not a scam. The first time i ran it it wouldn't work - in win2k. I just ran it again and the demo ran fine, takes a time to unpack itself but it's impressive to see what can be put into a file that's 64k.

It shows off some new features of DX8 but i don't know what they are as i'm not that into it.

Pretender, downloading fr_06 now, slightly bigger download😉

my voodoo5 played that flawlessyly in windows 2000. ive ran it several times with no skips, gitches, anomalies, nothing...

and i like it better that 06 because its 64k as opposed to 2 mb =)

just more impressive IMHO
