the probe that can "read" your cpu temperature does not read your cpu temperature. the probe is connected to an alarm that goes off if your cpu temperature reaches a certain temperature that cannot be changed. there is no way to have the digital readout of this probe since it is actually seperate from the digital display panel. not sure if that all made sense, but to recap what I said, you can only get the digital readout of the case temperature, not the temperature of the probe that monitors the cpu. the product sucks ass

I bought two of these and did a little soldering.. turned out pretty cool. One to monitor CPU temp and one for general case temp next to my RAID Array. Here are a couple pics...

If you are going to do mods on this buy the regular CP-VUE for $3.94, http://www.radioshack.com/ProductCatalog/ProductDetail/Index/1,2098,CTLG_7_9500440,00.html. It doesn't have the alarm feature, but is less then half the price. You can then mount two, maybe three in one slot like mikepeck's pictures show.

Well I finally got around to soldering. Have two of them installed in a 5 1/4 face plate.
Just de-soldered the thermistor probe, soldered some wire, then re-sodered the probe back on. Add a little heat shrink tubing to cover things up and ready to install.

Was thinking about removing the temp alarm that came on them and installing it in the case somewhere but they are glues on to the face plate pretty good.

What sucked the most, the batteries were almost dead on both temp untis I ordered. Bad business Rad shack. Think I will e-mail them and make them feel bad so they can send me some batteries

I don't have any skill at soldering either but I managed to do 7 out of 8 with a soldering gun, not even a pencil soldering iron. So I reccommend that you try it even if you don't think you know what your doing. It's equally hard to just pry the glue off and disasemble the thing, but only because it's small and the plastic pieces are thin and not very tough. The maim thing that makes this hard is working with small stuff in general.
The only advice I'd add to the pictoral instructions listed above is that you might have to make the holes on the little circuit board a little bigger to slip your wire through them. I used a drimmel tool but you could use a regular drill or even a pocket knife or just get some really small wire. 24 gage isn't small enough.
