my Netware server at work is called GS_Voyager. I didn't name it. The old ones that Voyager replaced were Mama and Papa. There was another called Howdy.

My main desktop is named after me: Ryan
My laptop is named Shadow, as it is supposed to follow me where ever I go.

I've seen people name their computers after different types of insects, arachnids, or reptiles. At school I've seen a lot of different naming conventions.... One prof names his boxes after famous Indian chess players (since most of his students are Indian). In the chemical engineering department, they named the computers after elements from the periodic table. In the workgroup I manage, I name the computers after various gems and minerals (quartz and ruby for instance).

I like the Roman theme you've started. If you stick with the theme, it'll help you remember the computer names. More importantly, it will help OTHER people remember the names too. For the win98 pair, you could use Phobos and Demos (spelling?). The names are from Roman mythology and are also the names for the two moons of Mars.

Ryan

There's another naming thread here.

My computer (and my nick here in the forums) is named after my old death metal band, Maggotry. My wife's is named after Xena, The Warrior Princess. My game server is named after the beast from Beowulf, Grendel.

I use the Ultima VII naming scheme 🙂

>>

This is named Computer 1
The machine to my left is Computer 2

Makes it easy to know where I am 😛

I've only got three machines at home, so it's "my computer", "my g/f's computer", and "my linux box". My brother's a bit more creative, naming his machines after body parts: spleen, colon, pancreas, etc.

Personally, I like Rotten's naming: poetry, vatican, wtf, janetreno, etc.. (not intended to make any real sense, other than to make you go "huh?" when you see them..)
