EIO has some of the best prices around without buying bulk. Delt with them many times before and very happy.

I am looking to buy an LCD to display stock quotes streamed out of a computer's serial/parallel port. If it is graphics LCD that is great but where can I find information for a newbie, how to interface the computer output to the LCD input with minimum work. Thanks for any help.

These lcds are very easy to program for. And there is even a program avalible that displays stock quotes(dont recall name). Goto your favorite search engine and type in HD44780, you will get 100x the info you will ever need to download peoples programs, wire the lcd, and write your own.

You will need some sort of driver (I wrote my own) chip to interface with the LCD. You may need to find a wirewrap socket to put on a protoboard. It's a fairly straight forward task, remember to "blink" the LCD so it won't burn out. Does anyone here knows how to control a color LCD? I assume it's pretty much the same, but I had never done it before.

I would believe that, if you were Uller.
actually, lcddriver v2 is almost out. LCDC is the best software IMHO for parallel lcds right now, you'd have to know how to wire it the lcd though. I wouldnt trust eio's site (as far as in-stock), being that it was down for like 3 weeks and it hasnt really been updated for almost a year now. Dont plan on getting any of the Seiko lcds everyone raves about either. They've been gone :(

I stopped looking at EIO's pages about two years ago and they had stopped updating it about six months before that. They have one of the strangest websites I've seen apart from personal sites. That place is ghetto, but I would have kept looking at it if they had ever acted like they cared about it.

It's actually not that hard to write you own lcd driver. With a parallel load LCD, all you have to do is turning the LCD on and off to avoid burn out assuming that the signals are given in parallel. If the signals are given serially, then you will have to latch the data until it reaches the desire size to send out.

Moreover, you may not want to go through the trouble...I asked my friend who sells car stereos...he told me that it cost about 130 for wholesale, but I think that's only a 5". It comes with the installation kit and power supply, no need to hassle with the dangling cables.

He won't tell me much of the details, but I think he got it off from Apex Audio....
The number is 1-800-274-3859....I found this in his bookmark: http://www.apex-audio.com/new_page_1.htm
but again, I am not 100% sure where he got his stuff from, that book mark may just been a site that he sees as a competitor!

If you want to order it, order it at your own risk!

I am not affiliated with them at anyway.
