Cool! arctic-cooling Freezer 64 Model ACFZ64

The Thermaltake HSF that came with my system was showing abnormally low RPMs, but the temperatures stayed the same as always -- 55C at idle.
I did some reading, and the freezer 64 seemed like the best way to go with it's easy installation. At idle, my temps are now 37C! Almost a 20 degree difference is great!
I'm gonna OC and see how it does.

Props to pctoys.com for shipping it so quick, too.

Odd.. I can't get it to boot if I OC past 2453mhz... what gives?
 
Supafly this is the wrong forum to talk about your CPU OC, but we'll avoid starting a new thread and we'll help you out here.

There's many things that can affect the booting of a system that's OC'd, so we'll start with the basics. A 3500+ can go far past 2.45ghz.

1. HTT! Remember, if you change your FSB, you must change the HTT multiplier accordingly. Make sure that your total HTT (HTT muliplier x FSB) stays under 1000. For the 3500+, it should be 200FSB x 5HTT. If you change the 200 to 220, lower your HTT to 4x. If you go up to over 250, lower it to 3x.

2. Ram. Make sure your ram can run at the speeds you have it set to run at. Since you have PC3200 ram (which runs at 200FSB), you'll need to OC the ram to get it to run at, say, 240FSB or whatever your CPU is set to. OC your ram by upping the voltage (you can go safely up to 2.85v on all ram), loosening the timings, or setting the memory frequency to 166mhz, or 5:6.

3. Voltages. Probably not the case (even a CPU volted low will still boot most of the time), but it doesn't hurt to check. Up the voltage (slowly as you up the mhz-age) but don't go over 1.6v. Also, some motherboards (I don't know about yours) tend to undervolt, so put the overvid to use (for example, 1.4v @ 8.3% overvid will give you about 1.5v-ish). Toy around with the voltage a bit, just don't go too high.


Finally, congrats with your new HSF! I hear great things about the Arctic Freezer, it cools well due mainly to its fan design (nothing in the way of the blades, unlike most fans). I also hear that its very quiet, what do you think?

Well, being as I have an Antec Sonata case, and I was using a quiet HSF before, I must say it is at least as quiet if not more quiet than that, which is pretty damn quiet. I am very happy with it.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have to try them out.
 
that performance dosn't seem too great; i get 32C idle/51C load with my AMD stock cooler and AS5. not as quiet though.
