Living in college really limits one's ability to prepare quality home-cooked food :)

so with the following instruments at my disposal, can anyone think of some quality recipies that i can do?

Stuff at my immediate disposal:

A mini Fridge
Microwave
portable water boiler
Brita Water filter
local grocery store

:)

kraft mac and cheese
assorted ramen
your favorite beverages

if you want REAL good eats, get a George Foreman grill :D
seriously, those things rock, just last week I had chicken fajitas and rib eye steak, all grilled to perfection on a GFG :)

If you have some sort of casserole dish, you can bake chicken and fish. Try getting some chicken breasts, marinating them in soy sauce, then baking it with the marinade in the microwave. You could also throw in some fresh vegetables after the chicken is mostly finished and bake them also.

ed21x, while not culinary masterpieces, I can think of a few:

Ragu Pizza-Quick
Kraft Mac n Cheese
Celeste Frozen Pizza
Hungry Man Frozen dinners

& last but not least, use a magnet to affix inexpensive delivery spots to your mini Fridge :D

May I recommend Papa John's Pizza, the college student's dream, quick fast, and hella cheap :D

Anybody got problems with George Foreman grill's coating wearing off after a few months of use?

I'm on my second one and it's getting really annoying with things getting stuck and burning. It is getting increasingly more difficult to clean it.

Mine was never really easy to clean, not like in the commercials. But it's still going strong at around a year old.

The people complaining about the coatings comming off... It's most likely from the unit getting too hot. Make sure you don't let it get too warm before you put the food on it... and turn it off when the food is done.

Edit: And I wouldn't imagine that eating teflon flakes would be very good for you....

:)

Zugzwang152- I actually do have a foreman grill but it's been collecting dust under my bed. maybe i'll whip it out one of these days...

klah: nunfortunately its not a hot plate :( its a plastic cup that you plug into the wall and it heats the water inside.

Spoooon: heh, that sounds waay too complicated =P

Zim Hosein: yup, its been ramen, EZ-mac, gatorade, and the occasional sandwhich everyday :) I actually can't fit an entire Hungryman tv dinner into the fridge, but some of the smaller 79c pot pies seem to work pretty well :)

Zugzwang152: us poor college students can't afford ordering pizza every night.. heh

It is good, but only when cooked on the stove.

True, I usually heat it up on the stove but didnt want to bother. I was still able to eat it anyway :D With frenchbread though to soak most of it up it took away some of the difference. I do agree with you though, on the stove it is better.

Does anybody ever use a microwave to cook stuff like chicken or fish or anything like that? I've found that it tends to dry out food so I've never really used the microwave for anything other than heating up leftovers, popcorn, or ramen. Maybe I'm not using the right setting for cooking chicken.

Here's a tip, when you have a hankering for baked potatoes, stick one in the microwave and cook four to five minutes.
It's amazing how good they come out :)

A George Foreman type grill and a Crock Pot will be your BEST friend in college. Well, that and beer. :D
