I think it was broiled but what made it special was a fried egg cooked right into the steak. Does anyone have a recipe for that or know if you just broil the steak and put the egg on right before it is done?

I?m not sure why that meal was so special but I still remember it. Perhaps it was because we had hiked all over Dubrovnik all day and the meal was at around 10:00 at night and we were starving. I remember that the meat was very aged and so tender that it just melted in your mouth.

Probably Goat!

Naw, that was real moo cow steak. Now that sandwich from the street vender in Napoli, I don't know what that was and try not to think about it anymore.

well i cooked the steak for those interested, i had no clue bout the broiler stuff, so i put it in a caserole with olive oil, soy sauce, garlic some brown sugar and oregano, set the oven to 400 cooked it for about 6 minutes on each side, ended up juicy but a little tuff, not bad, but doesnt beat the grill, thanks for the help!

Broiling is easy.

The top element in the oven is turned on when the Temp dial is turned to Broil. You then set the temp to where you want it.

To broil, set the temp as high as it goes then leave the oven door open, that is what that last notch before closing is for. I always broil, or grill over flame. Would never consider pan frying. Seems that the main difference between broil and open flame grilling is the heat is on top.

Agreed...

Also an alternative (if the steaks are very thick).... I will buy massively thick London Broils, marinate them and put them in the slow cooker for about 6 hours. They just fall apart! Much different than a grilled or broiled steak, but still very good.

You brown each side in a pan on high heat, then finish cooking it through in the oven, very good.

That was my thread! :) here is how I make steak now:

Place 10 to 12-inch cast iron skillet in oven and heat oven to 500 degrees. Bring steak(s) to room temperature.
When oven reaches temperature, remove pan and place on range over high heat. Coat steak lightly with oil and season both sides with a generous pinch of salt. Grind on black pepper to taste.
Immediately place steak in the middle of hot, dry pan. Cook 30 seconds without moving. Turn with tongs and cook another 30 seconds, then put the pan straight into the oven for 2 minutes. Flip steak and cook for another 2 minutes. (This time is for medium rare steaks. If you prefer medium, add a minute to both of the oven turns.)
Remove steak from pan, cover loosely with foil, and rest for 2 minutes. Serve whole or slice thin and fan onto plate.

I don't remember where I ripped that text from.
