Very long, if it's not all dried it should be fine. Just remove the dried areas. (And if there's no mold on them, that is)
 
Garlic is one of those things that lasts a long time. Just make sure that it hasn't sprouted - if it has, the garlic will be quite bitter.

You are right regarding the garlic & oregano. But you can sweeten the garlic by baking/roasting it first.

Personally I dislike oregano, but love sweet basil & peppermint basil.
