Very interesting replies.

I am doing my cook qualifications in december for my 3rd job.... gotta convince Job 1 & job 2 to let me have two weeks off

culinary school

When you come out culinary school, you generally get a job as a line cook at a decent restaurant. Not head chef.

I dunno, maybe you could be executive chef of a shithole.

exdeath: not quite the best comparison, IMO. Parts changers make shitty mechanics specifically because they cannot figure out the 'why' of said parts failure. Also...it's not always a parts failure.

A better comparison, to me, would be an assembly line worker (puts ingredients together without fucking them up) versus an artisan (uses experience and talent to create, even if it's not something mind-blowingly unique).

Ok then... mechanic follows a torque spec, engineer derived that torque spec.

People like to call themselves chef nowadays because it implies that they are better than your average fast food cook or sandwich artist.

However a real chef is someone who is a professional cook. I am the head chef at a hotel. However I still refer to myself as a cook as there are still too many things such as classical french cuisine which I need to learn more of before I could call myself a master chef.
