Convoluted win98se install

In an effort to get back some system stability which has gone to the cats lately, I'm reinstalling win98se on my machine.

But there's a few twists.

I have separate 98 and se disks and I have only the win98 cab files on my e: partition. Questions: how do I start up the install and use the files on my hard drive without installing onto e:? Will I have a problem going from 98se to 98 momentarily? Thanks.

Chris

I'm slapping on the latest via 4-in-1's as well. Are the any other drivers that could be making my system crash after say being in Word for and hour, or expecially when I have 5+ windows running? Thanks.:disgust:

You might make it a lot easier by just copying the whole disk (SE) to a folder called win98 on C: then enter that folder from command prompt and type "setup" after install you delete the folder!

To clear things up...

My hard drive has three partitions. Windows is running off if the c (#1) partition. The cab files are located in partition e (#3). I know you mentioned slapping the se files on e along with the other win98 cab files, but it is a separate se upgrade disk. Just putting the files together won't do it. And I'm still not sure how to take files from e;\ and install on c:\. Thanks,

Chris

Eheh. Yeah...and in fact any upgrade has the entire OS on it. If you wanna do a complete clean install, it is not necessary to install your old OS first. Just install from upgrade...during install it will ask you for your "old" windows disk, (to verify you have rights to an upgrade), and voila...clean, shower-fresh feeling!
