If you join the RC5 team you'll have an entirely new group of geeks asking you for pictures. ;)

That Distributed Computing forum can get pretty wild. :D

I don't think your bowels count. And that probably has more to do with your high-soy diet.

 1. money
 2. that sense of power and self-importance
 3. keep your computer from getting bored
 4. a good excuse to leave your computer(s) on 24/7
 5. a good reason to buy more computers
 6. a good reason to buy a bigger house to store your computers
 7. to make you sound extra-geeky to all your friends (assuming you have non-Anandtech friends)
 8. hold on, gotta go get my next hit...

I'm with yakko, if you're gonna donate computer clock cycles, at least give it to something that will actually benefit others: SETI. (let the flame come rolling in).

Everyone is missing the biggest advantage. Start cracking RC5 and Russ will start being your friend......okay, well at least he won't ride you so hard. :)

RC5, a part of team, you can get money out of it, and we will like you more if you do.
SETI, something that will never be finished in our lifetime, RC5 will maybe take the next 4 years or so.

"We have to put up with you, you may just as well put up with us."

How does the expression go, "put up or shut up"? I guess that means you indeed have to put up, Blake, because it appears that you can't shut up. (Neither can I.) ;)

Don't worry. As long as my cpu doesn't croak, I'm happy to add its modest contribution to that of all your ubercomputers. :p

if you start crackin' you may be a red neck.

anyway, if you do, paulson would start liking you, and you do not want paulson to like you...

GreenBeret: I would've made the same mistake, since I've never seen it spelled out :(, so I guess I'm as bad as Paulson :( :(

In regards to the original question, if you don't start cracking, I'm going to have to introduce you to my little friend

<< SETI, something that will never be finished in our lifetime >>

what a stupid thing to say - did you know scientists found bacteria in a martian rock a few years ago? life's out there.

also, I still don't see any significance in cracking numbers - so now someone also convince me why I should switch to rc5 from seti.
