Get it if you have the money, but honestly, couldnt you get an awsome system for that price, or even a decent car.

LOL!

I say keep the 2x2005fpw!

i can sell them to makeup some of the difference. im sure i could get 350 for each monitor at least. they seem so inadequate after seeing the ACD in person.

I went to the apple store the other.. to look at the 30 inch apple display.. after becoming very jealous, changed the resolution to 640*480 and left the store....

Here's another reason for you: Dell 3007FPW, should be available next month.

specs? or is this another craptacular 30" dell lcd/tv with max res of 1376x768?

I can assure you this isn't an LCD TV. I've seen the Dell monitor matrix and the 3007 is supposed to ship in Dec, followed by the 2407 and 2007 in Feb/Mar. Now you know why your seeing 2405s thrown in with dell pcs for $1100 combo deals. They're getting replaced...

vaporware ftw!

again, specs pls....

WoW at 1920x1080p on Scepter 37" looks great. It doesn't have the resolution as the Apple 30", then again it costs about 3/4 of it also....

i thought that resolution looked ok until i saw the apple. seriously, you are missing over half of the available pixels that the ACD offers, and its being stretched out a lot further. im sure it looks ok, but it pales in comparison to the resolution of a real computer monitor, like the 2405FPW or ACD.

if that doesnt make sense then ignore me, but im pretty sure that is right.

im sure it will play games just fine as long as i dont have 16xAA and all the other goodies. at that resolution im sure it will be a tad choppy but still playable

Don't count on it, you'd be 30fps or under at even 2048x1536 in many current games with no AA at all, 2560 x 1600 would be far more demanding if games even support that resolution at all.

You could buy a Westinghouse 37" monitor for less, and have 7 more inches of space and not be a "tool" (lots of tools use this phrase I've noticed) for owning an apple product.

Okay, here's a convince:
It's expensive, and it will drain on your computer. Your GT might not even be able to game on resolutions that high. And if so, you'll have to upgrade very 2 months!

Stay with a 24" CRT. A good one. Or if you don't have the space, a 24" 2405FPW.

SLI 7800GTS would probably strugle at the native res lol!

i probably shouldnt tell you this since it will make you feel bad, but my girlfriend is actually the one buying it for me. 😀 she supports my computer junkie habits and that is why i love her. well that isnt the only reason, but it helps.

The native 2560x1600 resolution alone should be enough reason to steer clear of the Apple as a gaming monitor, no current pc setup will push that res very well and 16ms / 400:1 contrast ratio isnt all that hot either.

🙂 ill probably go for it, or maybe wait to see what dell has to offer as competition in december. we shall see.

JRW, i plan on keeping one of my 2005FPWs to game on if games dont scale very well on the 30" display. i bet they will though.

what is hdcp? i dont plan on using this thing for anything except a computer monitor. i dont need all kinds of fancy inputs and stuff...it just needs to have DVI and thats it. it is a computer monitor only.

edit: is that high bandwith digital content protection? why do you care about that?

If you have the money, then go for it. It's an amazing display with lots of real estate. But, if your a gamer then just get the 2005FPW or 2405FPW instead.

I think you should get it, but only if you buy a powermac to go with it. Apple hardware deserves to be united with its brethren.

Apple backer get off a pc forum...

soccerman06, your rig is awesome. just thought id say that. 🙂

Apart from its huge resolution and size the Apple 30" doesn't look that impressive, with a very low contrast ratio and 16ms response time. I guess one nice thing about that resolution though is that you can play at 1280x800 without any scaling, which isn't too low.

It will be mandatory for playing certain HD videos in Windows Vista, and the MPAA is forcing it upon everything you've heard of. Probably standalone HDTV tuners will need it too, for whatever reason.

What do you mean without any scaling?? The native resolution is 2560 x 1600 pixels, for the better or for the worse...

It must increase the image area 4x by quadrupling each of the source's pixels, and that will probably look like crap unless you then sit back 4x more. No distortion (per se), no, but definitely still scaling, unless you use 1:1 mode.
