Convince me: DFI Ultra-D or Asus A8N-E

Shopping around for an upgrade for my aging system. It's time. I need convincing what makes the DFI Ultra-D better than an Asus A8N-E or vice versa.

I've seen the pro's and con's of the DFI board, but the reviews on the A8N-E seem scarce.

Convince me on all points. Please.

DFI board is fantastic but it's DFI it might be dead in a year.

Asus board is solid as usually and it's ***ASUS***.

Asus board is also missing Firewire and I think GigaLAN.

Hard Choice...I'd go with the Asus, I like dependablity and Asus has always been the least troublesome board maker.

The thing about Asus is the new amd dual core cpus tested great on them. The whole reason for my system is to prepare for dual core. But up until this moment I wanted the cool looking DFI. On board audio which board is better?

I have the A8N-E, and I like it a lot. It has been stable and proved to be a good overclocker.

I have a '05 3000+ at 270 x 9 @ 1.45 volts with a DDR266 divider. My twinmos value memory is at around 180 mhz with 2-3-2-7 timings.

Comparing apples to oranges here unfortunately. Granted, the Ultra-D and the SLI-D/DR are the exact same board; unfortunately, the A8N-SLI and the A8N-E are completely different board layouts. Features may be similar, but they don't use the same PCB.

Wait... really? You mean the company DFI or the LanParty board..? I thought they used japaneese capacitors (= longer lasting).

Both are VERY nice manufacturers. Asus has been around longer and holds a larger market share (ie larger company) so they have a very good reputation. However of late DFI has been doing EXCEPTIONALLY good. I would say that their quality surpasses Asus now. DFI #1 Asus a close 2.

Biggest issues I'm seeing with DFI right now are going to be the pickey memory requirement and the often damaged boards (power switch, bent headers, etc).

Other than that, what it has going for it is 2 16x PCIe slots... depending on the revision allowing for SLI.

I've got both the DFI and the A8N-E.......my view, if you're going non-SLI, the Asus is the way to go. BUT, if you need firewire, you'll need to go DFI or buy a card which is dumb. I have Firewire through my Audigy Plat. so it wasn't a factor, but, something to think about. I love the Asus board, very stable and very easy, straightforward O/C'ing. I can actually get higher with the Asus now than with my DFI, but I attribute that to better ram with the Asus.

You won't be disappointed with either, but, I have to like Asus for easy RMA and support if needed, where I've heard from several people about dsmal support and horrid RMA expiereinces with DFI.

Get the one YOU want and have fun with it!🙂
