Converting VHS tape

If I have a few VHS Tapes that I want to put into another format (i.e. a video file on a computer or DVD). How would you go about this in the most inexpensive fashion possible?

Get TV tuner. Hook up VHS player to TV tuner. Record input using VLC or VirtualDub with XviD/mp3 or x264/HE-AAC. Or record to MPEG-2 and author/burn to DVD. Enjoy.

Don't be such a pirate. Just buy the DVDs already. 😛

If it's legit, you need a video capture card. From that, you can hook your VHS player up to your computer and capture the video...then convert it to whatever format you want. Most of the good ones will give you a few options on resolution vs performance (ie video quality vs size of video file).
