Converting to vegetarian (read: not vegan) - 3 months later

Good for you. Big key here - how old are you? That will have a big impact on your overall health and dietary choices. If you're in your 20s/early 30s not much to matter. After that you'll see the affects of your poor lifestyle choices and early death.

B12 was a bit low apparently - taking supplements now.

That's after cutting out all meat since Christmas

A few of you will wonder why: This was not an emotional choice. Poor digestion runs in the family, and was a routine problem for me. After cutting out any meat from my diet, I've never felt better.

Things I miss the most:

- Ribs
- Real burgers, though the patties made from compacted veg are pretty damn good
- Chicken probably the most

Major benefits I've noticed so far:

- Digestion and energy are way better
- Sexual energy has stayed the same, much more palatable according to the girlfriend
- Much cheaper, I've started buying better quality products in place of meat-related costs
- Hopefully no colon-cancer later in life

Discuss.

how is going vegetarian cheaper??

You are joking, right?

What a bunch of nonsense. You do understand that there are vegetarian sources of protein? You do understand that there are millions of vegetarians in the world that have no issues, correct? I think something like 150 million vegetarians live in India alone.

Ignorance ftl.

See, THAT's just a howlingly stupid and ignorant statement.

IF his doctor said that (link, sparky?), he doesn't even begin to know what he's talking about.

An egg has more complete protein than any meat, AND you can get the complete the protien of meant merely by combining legumes and grains together, for instance, lentils and rice together pack all of the protein of any meat product available on this entire planet.

Consider yourself informed. 😉

I'm not vegetarian, but nuts have plenty of protein don't they?

Yes, as do a ridiculous number of other things: lentils, garbanzo beans, soybeans, brown rice, fruits like apples and bananas, green peppers, spinach, etc. etc.

The "OMG there's no protein in vegetarian food!" is silly. A great percentage of the world treats meat as a luxury, not a daily ritual like much of the western culture. For them, vegetarian is much the norm.

If I'm reading this right, this might be one of the dumbest leaps of logic I've ever read on this forum.

I was vegetarian for a few years in my early 20s. I stopped because I split up with my girlfriend :^D

She would do the cooking, and a pretty good job of it. I don't like cooking so much, and vegetarian food takes more time and skill to make something really good. Any retard can heat up a piece of meat and have it taste acceptable. I prefer vegetarian food(except for sausage McMuffins with egg, they're unbeatable :^P), and would eat that way all the time if I had the inclination to cook, or the money to buy out.

dude, you need to try that bacon-tasting method of preparing shitake mushrooms. It's works, and it's quite awesome.

No, I don't think so.

I have had 0 problem so far, and I haven't been picky about what I've eaten, just eaten well.

Edit - I should say that it can be difficult to get Iron. I haven't had a problem though, so I don't know how over-hyped that is now.

Yeah, I keep thinking this would be the biggest problem for me. Chard should pretty much cover it, I think.

well, not really. the hardest thing would be steak. ...not gonna do it. I would LOVE to cut back the overall meat intake though. I know I'd feel way better.

In that it costs less. Any other questions?

My Toca Bell burrito I'm eating right now was only 89 cents.

You couldn't pay me to eat a Taco Bell burrito, especially a knock off like Toca Bell.

Do0d, this is a discussion about food, not rapid enjoyment modules.

OP, do you think you would have felt this way if you reduced your meat intake, but not completely eliminate it? I consider myself to eat pretty healthy, but i do tend to eat alot of redmeat (beef, lamb) and fish.

That's a good question - and one I cannot accurately answer since I didn't go down that road. I am assuming I would have felt better, I don't think I would have realized just how good I would feel if I hadn't given it up entirely.

I'm thinking I may start to eat some white meat again later in the year, I also decided I will still eat fish when i encounter it, not that often though.

The OP is talking about quality food not Grade D but edible.

No I'm just like every other food troll we have here when someone talks about fast food or something then throws in that they can cook better food for cheaper. It's just the other way around.

yeah, but that ain't meat.

No thanks,
besides loving meat, veggie diet would get really expensive if you you're on a high protein diet (aka maintain/build muscle). Plus i've never seen a muscular vegetarian...

Chicken breast on sale for $1.99/lb is about the most cost effective protein source I could find... whey supplements and similar cost orders of magnitude more.

Are you kidding? It's far cheaper, how expensive are eggs? It's a huge misconception that you need to eat only meat to get protein.

I've seen many muscular vegetarians - my girlfriend is one of them. There are many:
