Converting to Cable internet. What do I need

I posted this topic in periferals and got only one reply. I don't know how to move a post so here it goes. I just decided to go from telephone DSL to cable for broadband. I purchased a LinkSys cable modem with inlets for both USB and ethernet, but as I understand it only one computer can use it at a time. My old DSL modem allowed me to connect my wife's computer via the USB input and mine via the ethernet input and also a phone line. Now I am not sure if I need a router or a network or what. Anyone out there know what hardware I need (at minimum cost please)?

I didn't know that DSL let you run 2 off of the same modem, that's cool.

In order to share one modem w/ 2 computers on cable you're going to need a router. The modem would plug into the router, then you just run ethernet from the router to each computer.

Or you can get a Wireless router which still plugs into the modem. But then you have the choice of running wire like the normal router, or getting a wifi card for each computer/laptop so you can just do it w/o cables.

Let us know of anymore questions.

If you had more then one IP from your cable company you might be able to, but then again you might still need to hook up a switch to the modem... Router is your best option...
