OP were you ever able to figure it out?

I have an MSI 390 as well and looking at 1600x1200 at 85HZ with my new CRT.

I ordered the DVI - D dual link which should arrive tomorrow, however after viewing this thread I ordered a VGA to DP for the higher bandwidth that may be required.

I'm currently waiting for a female-female DP adapter to connect my 5m DP cord with the VGA adapter https://www.komplett.se/product/846067/datorutrustning/kablage/skrmkablar/iiglo-kabel-vga-dp

It looks like the DP-VGA adapter I got is the same kind of adapter as the StarTech one that I originally intended, so I'll try it out and see if I'm satisfied with the picture quality. Otherwise I'll just have to look for one that can handle high resolutions specifically, like maybe that StarTech one.

I'm getting the StarTech VGA to DP 1.2 tomorrow. I will let you know the results.

VGA to DVI didn't work
VGA to HDMI with CRU and patch didn't work

Hopefully this one will work, I assume so since it has the ability to do up to 144HZ

It didn't work, I have no clue to why. However using CRU it never allowed above 60HZ at 1600x1200 however, I was able to clock 1280x1024 up to 94HZ. I'm assuming it was a bandwidth issue. Or a driver limiting issue. Good luck and hope you figure it out.

I use a 750Ti with a native VGA port to power my FW900. I use it for competitive gaming as even my very fast 27" Asus PG279Q is to slow at 144hz for Quake and BF4. CRT gaming may be dead for the casual gamer but there's still a huge difference between the fastest LCD's and a good CRT.
