converting laptop LCD into desktop monitor

Does anyone know how to convert an LCD into a desktop monitor? Is this even possible? I have a Gateway m500 that is falling apart and I thought I would salvage what I could and do some tinkering. The wires on this screen are intact as are the plugs on the end. If anyone has any ideas, let me know! Oh, I will also be creating custom ball/socket fixture and stand for it should I succeed. Thanks in advance!

That question again. No work - laptop internal TFTs use an interface that's not common on desktop graphics cards, namely LVDS or direct parallel digital. Even if you come up with a graphics card that has the interface, you'd still have to configure the card's VGA BIOS to know the panel's exact timing and other parameters, since laptop TFTs typically aren't PnP either.

it's possible, BUT you have to get an LCD controller to convert from a signal your vidcard will output, to something the screen will like.

Those things usually cost about as much as the screen itself. So, not worth it.
