Converting bmp --> jpeg with MSpaint

I'm trying to get a bmp that's 2 mb to be less than 200kb, but when I go to save as... in MSpaint I can't save it as a jpeg. any suggestions how to convert using MSpaint, since I don't have Photoshop or any other image editing programs?

You cant use MSPaint to save a jpg... Try going to download.com and look for another imaging editing program that supports .jpg/.jpeg

I can save .bmp as .gif or .jpg with mspaint.

Are you sure you can't save it as a JPG in Paint? I tried doing that and it works.

Why can't you get different software to do it? =\

Anyway, if you change ur mind with not getting new software, you should get Ifranview. It's a nice little nitfy software, it can do batch conversations too! (you can find it at download.com)

Anyways, if you want, you can send me the file, and I'll convert it for you and send it back to you

When you do "Save As.." does "jpg" show up in the drop down box? it doesn't for me.

Anyways I converted with Kodak Imaging for Windows, which is in the Accessories group.

I read somewhere about this problem. I forget actually what the software combination is but mspaint will only save as JPEG if some other piece of software is installed or something dumb like that.

EDIT: Link Not exactly the prob but maybe some regediting will fix the situation.

Use Google to find 'Irfanview'. Its a freeware prog that will handle that and much more. I use it as my default image file viewer.
