I have an avatar that I made several years ago, that I use on most of the forums. But a couple of them no longer allow animated avatars, so mine has disappeared there. I can't remember which program that I used, but I think that it was composed of 20 images in succession. How would I extract one of them to use?

Or, just SAVE AS a jpg. Animation will no longer exist and the file will be svelter.

I saved a .bmp okay, but it includes not only all of my desktop, but also all of the screen sent to my TV. Naturally, I need to crop the avatar out of this, but I'm having no luck. I tried a couple of ways, but in Irfanview, the only manner of cropping that I found, was in Batch Conversion/Rename, in the advanced options. I tried using the numbers given in the title bar, when I selected the area and putting them in to the X and Y coordinates windows, and then started the conversion. But that did nothing except to change the file format to .jpg, as I had selected. The image remained intact. How do I crop what I need?

Just open it in Paint, select it with the dotted box tool and cut it out of the current image. Save it as a new file and you are all set.

This works for me every time.

Now, if Anandtech would update their forum software so that I could use my own avatar, instead of their's, it would really be nice.

Well that's where we disagree I guess. I hate forums with all kinds of crazy dancing avatars.

I guess as long as there was an option to disable them I would not care, but otherwise

There doesn't need to be any dancing avatars, regardless of the manner in which a forum is setup. You can either disable showing avatars in the forum profile, or freeze .gifs with your browser or perhaps your proxy. The only reason that the other forums are doing away with animated .gifs, is to save bandwidth.
