Go to Device Manager, either from the System Properties or through the MMC, click on Computer to show which type of installation....should currently say ACPI Multiprocessor PC.

Double click on ACPI Mutltiprocessor PC, go to the Driver tab and click Update driver. Hit Next, then Display known list....then Show all devices in this class....and then select ACPI PC. Reboot.

if you have a dual proc machine you want the multiproc hal

if for some reason you want to use only one of the 2 procs

add a the switch /numproc=1 to your boot.ini file
and reboot
