Convert Replay TV file

Anyone have any suggestions for programs that can convert Replay TV files that I downloaded to my computer? These files are large (1 hour show is a 1.58 GB mpeg) and I would love to get it onto a CD-R (yeah I know, but I don?t have a DVD burner).

I have attempted to use:
Virtualdub (it gives error message that there are no frames found for MPEG file)
Windows Media Encoder (gives error message that the necessary codecs cannot be found)

Any suggestions? I am sure I am just doing something wrong, but either way any help would be appreciated.

Oh, just to be sure that the file was not corrupt, I tried to play the file in windows media player 9. It had NO problems. The sound was in sync and the video looks good.

The Replay files are in a slightly nonstandard MPEG format, so VirtualDub won't open it.

There are programs that can open and convert it however. Try Womble (womble.com). They have a free trial, and if I remember right it can open the Replay files. I believe there are a few others as well.

Ok I downloaded Womble. The program can load the file, but how can i compress it to something smaller? Right now it is 1.58 GB, and all the converters make it a larger mpeg file.

I have also tried to export the video clip and save it as a different file type, but all of those seem to make the file larger. Any suggestions as to a codec/encoder/file type to use to make this thing smaller maybe around the 700 MB range?

I want it to be good enough quality to see it (i.e. not just fuzzy moving blocks), but it does not have to be as good as it is now.

BTW I have tried to use the help that is provided, but it does not give options for what I want to do. And if you couldn't tell i have no idea what I am doing. So any help would be greatly provided.

No, just open it Womble and save it in Womble. That will make it a standard MPEG-2 file that you can then open and convert with whatever program you want. Womble is just going to act as the go between as most programs won't even touch ReplayTV files.
