Convert protected WMA to MP3

I have downloaded a few audio books from www.netlibrary.com (site provided by the local library). Anyways, I'd like to listen to them on my iPod, but unfortunatley they are all .WMA. I have attempted a few different methods (WaveOut, FileOut, Disk Writer, Sound Forge) but they have all failed. I don't really care abou the DRM staying intact (I have a 21 day limit on the file), I just want the format changed. Any ideas?

Did you try DiskWriter in an old version of Winamp? I am pretty sure they worked for Napster DRM protected WMAs, might work with this.

The latest version of WMA is pretty robust - I'm not aware of a reliable method for conversion, other than using software that can record the analogue signal. This is somewhat inconvenient as the recording must take place in real time, and manual intervetion is required, and you'll have to set up volume controls appropriately, and make sure that your PC doesn't produce any other sounds during the recording (because they'll be recorded too).

the file is an audio book...aka 1024 mins long... i don't have the desire to go through and break it all up

Can't you emulate a cd-burning then? Then you wont' have to waste disks, and it'll be much faster.

There is a program out there (I don't knw what it is) that hooks into the sound card somehow. So anything output by the card is recorded to disk as a wav or MP3.

why not just use audacity? play the wma file and record it at the same time with audacity to mp3, problem solved.

this works for me for some reason: nero wave editor, open file (*.wma), 'save as...' mp3 or wav. if i try to use any other wma -> mp3/wav program, it says it cant do it and its drm-protected.

Winner. Nero Wave Editor is your best bet, sounds like. It's really easy to use too.
