I've hated every beer I have ever tried (which admittedly is not very many, just the main few).

Show me the way beer gurus of ATOT, what beer should I drink?

I will go to the store today and buy the top couple of suggestions.

If you don't like beer in general, you'll probably hate the higher end stuff more than the low end.

What don't you like about beer? If its the herbalness/bitterness, maybe start with Paulaner (hefeweizen)

I dislike beer in general and I disagree with this sentiment. I hate stuff like IPAs more than regular light beer, but I like "higher end" wheat beers and anything not too crazy.

Why not find something not beer to drink? There's more to alcohol than beer.
I hate beer and my simple solution is: don't drink it. I drink other stuff instead.

The thing about trying beer is that (especially if youve had mainstream mass produced meh beer) there are a lot of flavors you arent used to.

I think beers that wont bombard you with flavor may be a good start. avoid light beers.

suggestions:

sunrye summer ale
molson canadian
magic hat circus boy, widmer hefe, paulaner, franziskaner, weihenstephaner (hefes dont have loads of overpowering flavor, generally, and are good ideas)
killians irish red
red seal ale
stella/becks/heineken - none are great, but theyre drinkable and plain (imo)
orange blossom pilsner
hoegaarden

id consider most of those relatively easy to drink, if you want fruity, look for leinenkugels sunset wheat or a blue moon, if you want a little more body or something a hair darker, amber bock or newcastle brown ale are not bad starting points

Beer tastes terrible to me as well, I have had better luck with finding good tasting wine, but still, does not taste as good as mixed drinks.

I suggest trying liquor mixed with soda or juice. For example Amaretto mixed with coke. Yeh, it is a chick drink, but it tastes good. For a more manly drink, try Jack Daniels mixed with A&W root beer.

if you don't like it, don't try to force yourself to drink it, there's really no point.

I don't like that they taste terrible, yes the bitterness is a factor.

Is this thread about beer or alcohol in general? Seems like it is just about beer, I generally don't like beer either, I just drink bourbon/whiskey. I would suggest you definitely stay away from IPAs, they are bitter and hoppy, just terrible. I kind of like Sam Adam's, it is not too bad.

For general alcohol, you could try wine or those malt beverages, Mike's hard lemonade, if you don't like that try some rum & coke or whiskey and coke, if you don't like that try the super girly drinks, if you don't like that, well, there is no hope for you I am afraid.

I have to agree with this. There is a reason why people at keg parties drink stuff like Bud Light...easier to drink, less filling, etc. Try getting down more than a couple of stouts or very hoppy beers if you don't like beer.

It's about needing something to drink when I go out, I feel like not drinking is fucking me up socially. I really have no problem with alcohol, I've just never found a drink I enjoy.

I find I only like really cheap beer (Northern, Mountain Crest, it must be because it reminds me of my youthful days) or high end stuff. One of my favorites is called Dragon's Milk. It's a dark, extremely rich beer that I would imagine you can get at nicer beer oriented restaurants. St. Bernardus Abt 12 is also quite tasty. Chimay Red will get it done. You might like a lot of the trappist beers. Delerium Tremens is pretty good too.

Not disagreeing in general terms you are probably correct. I however do not like any of the cheaper beers but I do enjoy most higher end IPA's

meh, its like a wine cooler more than beer. works if you like fruity stuff, but id probably rather have wine or liquor *Shrug*

liquor and sodas are not a bad call if you dont like beer and dont mind something sweet; else experimenting with cocktails is not a bad idea. (the vodka + anything suggestion is a good idea, also)

private stock and coke tastes like a vanilla coke, and a white russian is a tasty beverage to those who would abide

Hrm, most of this sounds like stuff I would not be able to get at your average bar.

Hrm, most of this sounds like stuff I would not be able to get at your average bar.

You would be suprised. If you go to a bar that has at least a somewhat decent beer selection you should be able to find them.

I also recommend Paulaner Hefeweizen. It has a great mellow flavor that most people like. You can find it at many bars. In fact, just about any wheat beer will probably be a good start. Another recommendation would be just about any good brown ale. Newcastle on tap is good and easy to find. Not so good in the bottles (often "skunked" because of the clear bottles).

Otherwise, go to a good liquor store. You will likely be able to find at least a few of the mentioned beers above.

Beer has amazing diversity and without question you will find somthing you like.

Edit: BTW - Find a quality brewery/bar in your area. You can often do sampler tastings and get an idea of what you do and dont like. In fact, in just about any beer bar you can get a taste of somthing if it is on tap. Old Chicago is a pretty common place that you can find that will be more than happy to help you become a beer snob.

Even better, pour that over vanilla ice cream and eat it. You will never think of beer the same way.

I serve it when I make Devil's Food Cake or a Chocolate Fondant.. I don't care too much for it as a "drink" per se, but paired properly, it's a fantastic complement.

I respectfully disagree. High end beer does not always mean it will be thicker or more bitter. If someone does not like McDonalds burgers, that does not mean they will not like higher end burgers that are made using fresh beef, toppings, and buns right? :)

OP: What state will you be purchasing in and what craft brew brands do you see in the store? I would suggest looking for a Blonde, Pilsner, or a Wheat beer most likely. Even better, look up a nearby store or bar that specializes in carrying a wide variety of craft beers. At the store you can ask what they recommend, at an ale house you can do the same and probably try some samples.
