Conversion tools for DVD - SVCD?

Any suggestions on what to use for converting a DVD to SVCD. I have looked around and I know I can convert the DVD to AVI and then got AVI2VCD, but is there an easier way to convert directly to VCD (MPEG-1 I believe) from DVD? Lmk what you have used, how it worked...
 
After tinkering around and reading some, I finally found this guide here. I use it to the T, with a small modification here and there. It gives me fantastic results.
