Controlling pc with remote control?

I tried to control itunes with my remote control(came w/ my tv card, hauppauge wintv go 2) and it worked! But i wanna control other programs, not just itunes. And 90% of my buttons are useless cos they dont work 🙁 So is there any program to enable all the controls?

The remote control uses infrared and is connected to the backpanel of my tv-card(plug is little smaller than standard 3,5mm) Remote control looks like this
 
As you can see from the pic you have shown, you have to make sure the "other" programs will have relevant keyboard mapping.
The remote simulates keyboard presses, but for the listed keys. So in order for rewind function to work you have to map it to F5 key in your software.
