controlling midi card in another computer

Hi everyone,
Any MIDI enthusiasts nearby? My question is...Could I use the sound card (via another midi cable and audio running back to my first computer) in another computer as an external midi device and control it through my sequencer (Cakewalk and Cubase)? If so, would that computer have to be running a sequencer or could I just install a small hard drive, have it boot to DOS and just act as a dumb midi device? Thanks!
 
I suppose you could MIDI OUT from your computer to the MIDI IN of the other computer and send control messages to that computer.
