Controller problems

For a long time I've had a problem (across different operating systems even) where some games seem to think that I'm always pressing UP or RIGHT on my controller if nothing is being pressed, like a button is stuck. Or like one of the axises is off center or something, but they're not. I can unplug all peripherals on my computer (including the controller of course) and certain games still constantly detect moving right or moving up. It's pretty maddening as you can imagine. It doesn't make sense. Most games are fine with it and I have no problem. The problem never arises in applications or when browsing the web or anything like that.

Maybe some games are detecting a controller that's not really there or something like that. I've tried everything so I don't know what it could be. Mighty frustrating 🙁

got any ideas? It must be software/file related because as I mentioned I can unplug everything from the back of my computer and the games will still act as though I'm holding one direction on my game pad.

isn't there some sort of recalibration program ? check in control panel.. to see if the controller shows up ... you may be able to calibrate it from there

I've tried recalibrating a few times but still have the same problem after each try.

Also, oddly enough, If I disable my controller in the device manager, the games (probably all made by the same company) start lagging like hell. Extremely sluggish. The problem of the game thinking i'm holding UP is gone, but the game becomes unplayable due to the lag, lag which is not there if the controller is left enabled. It's a really lame problem that doesn't make sense. Bad coding from the makers of the game combined with weird controller drivers or something.
