control computer via USB

Suppose you have two computers, and only one USB keyboard and one USB mouse. Is there any such device that would let you emulate keyboard/mouse control from your primary computer to the secondary one?

The idea is I want to have a HTPC in my living room sitting along side my Playstation 2. I don't want to have a separate keyboard/mouse for my PS2, nor do I want to get off my butt and switch the USB connections.

Anyone ever hear of anything like this?

get RealVNC... run the server on the HTPC, access the machine using a client on your usual machine. works like a charm, and its FREE

There are some devices, usually used as a KVM switch, that at a hotkey press on the keyboard, (ALT+CTRL+F1 through F5 for example) switches control (keyboard and video as well) over to the F# compter, while maintaining a 'fake' connection to the others, to stop hardware disconnection messages.

I am not sure if they make an only-USB one, but I hope this much helps.

Hi, thanks for the responses.

I do know about both of these, but it isn't exactly what I want. I guess the KVM method would work (minus the video) but it would have to be a USB version.

Ideally though, I'd just like to be able to send keyboard/mouse commands over the USB connection from my primary computer.

That would probably work, but I was thinking it would also be cool to script a few keyboard/mouse commands which I wouldn't be able to do with a KVM.

For example, if I'm playing an online game (such as Tiger Woods) on my Playstation 2, then I often type stuff like "nice shot", "good job", etc. If my primary computer was emulating a USB keyboard to the Playstation 2 somehow, then I could theoretically have it send these comments with the push of a hotkey.

Just an idea, more of a project than anything.

BTW, when I said "PS2" in my original post I was referring to my Playstation 2, not the PS2-style interface.

I guess what I envision is a program that when open captures the keyboard/mouse movement and then passes it over a USB connection to the USB keyboard/mouse input on the Playstation 2 (or any computer for that matter).
