Remember folks,

December 1st is the Official start date for Roelof's UD account.
(But we'll definitely take early starters)

Thanks again to all of those who have decided to kick-in a few more WU's before we throw in the after-burners~!

Pass the word and lets give what we can to show our respect and dedication!

I checked the "default" profile and made sure it was selected to the Cancer research program.

Did you see any change on the next WU?

@LANMAN

If I remember right, we can get better points per result if 10 GB is selected in the device profile.

Not sure if another profile should be made for those that have that much free space or what.

I do know that UD never will use anywhere close to that much space, but selecting it gives more points, or so I was told by old UDers 🙂

Well, I don't have a huge system partition, and hence only have around 5GB free on that, but if there's a way to move the UD client to another partition so it can "use" more space, I'll gladly do it if the point increase is worthwhile. 🙂

BTW, LANMAN, I've only been getting cancer WUs for the past few days... Following Fingers' advice, I unchecked the other project from my device's profile (I thought that it wouldn't affect anyone else, so I went ahead and tried it for what I thought was my device only), and it seems to have been working well.

If I remember correctly, I selected 10 GB for a drive that only had about 9 GB and it went by what was available.

With three WUs and UD Monitor in the install folder, it only adds up to 8 MB! Like I said it doesn't use up much space.

I wish some of those UD oldtimers would come in here and give advice. I don't know if I should go ahead and change it or make a new profile.

GLeeM, you are right about selecting the 10GB option in the profile, this will give you more points/wu.
Since the selected project is 'cancer' the client will never run any other projects (when available) so there is no risc in the client using anything more then ~10MB..
They've had other projects which required more HD space, that's why the option is there.
Another advice is to disable the screen saver, but most DC'ers usually do that with all projects 😉

I'll stick around for other questions when needed 🙂

From December 1st onwards I'll crunch UD for Roelof for 7 days. I never really used SETI driver but I think he deserves our WU donation anyway!

LANMAN, plz PM me the details!!

😀

Hasn't UD been out long enough to have a Linux client? I have 2 Linux boxen that can be switched to Roelof's account, just
need a Linux client. I guess I will have to hijack my wife's AMD 1800 and my son's Dual 1800, both on XP for my donation... 🙂

ManLan, please PM me Roelof's addy... Thanks...

 for you Lanman..!
You da bestest..!

The UD-client have AFAIK not changed for some years, this means windows only and can only run one instance on multi-cpu so must share with another project if multi/HT.

These limitations ( no daul processor support and Windows only) as well as others (COMMERCIAL ONLY) have restricted my support for UD.

I would encourage members to support Find-a-Drug ... same goals as UD but NOT-FOR-PROFIT and not limited by Windows.

Thanks

Usually I'd agree with you, but in this case it's a different story, as we do this to honor Roelof and not to support UD's financial affairs.

Please PM me the addy. I will donate an AMD 1800 and a dually 1800 from Dec 1.
Both are XP machines..

I didn't mean to crap on the thread, Roelof is more important than ANY issue that can come up.

I'll try too but cant promise much

Less than 5 hours (Central Time) until we kick this thing off OFFICIALLY! 😀

Anyone else want to throw in for the cause???

Please PM me!! We owe it to Roelof!! Come on... what's one week of your stats??

(Feel funny saying that because alot of you are still sitting there thinking about it. 😛 😉 )

In the AM I'll be firing up all the CPU power I can (at work) so we should see some interesting results!

And for those of you who have already joined and/or already running the client....

THANK YOU!!!

Today: Trojans

My sister in law disabled my antivirus and firewall

18 trojans
700 infected files and I was only gone 3 hours

I have solved that lol and changed all passwords.

She will never learn

But Great day anyway 😛

Glad to see you posting 😛

I got one Trojan that broke me "from sucking eggs". I no longer browse OR e-mail with Winblows products, Linux only!

Back OT, I changed my mind, I have added my 1.6gig Pentium M lappy AND my 2600+ @ 2.35 to the
Roelof Foundation. I will also switch the 2 1800's later today.

 for all donators!
