The fact that recently, a *Canadian* Muslim aid worker was kidnapped, indicates that "all bets are off" and ANYONE is liable to being kidnapped, having their head blown off, etc.

I can't believe all these people are getting excited about a 1 year contract worth only $100k. Where do these people work at, McDonald's?

Having a family that needs me is reason enough never to volunteer for anything in Iraq regardless of the income opportunities. Even if I was single the prospect of being kidnapped and killed and having my body dragged around the streets is enough deterrent to say hell no!!

Yes I would but only if
  • I could carry my own weapon, preferrably something small which holds a lot of bullets
  • Assuming I weren't married
  • Bullet proof vest
  • I'd want some sort of GPS tracking on me
  • Can I bring ATOT with me?
  • All of the $100k were tax free

A lot of these former military going back as private security contractors are former Special Forces anyway - they sure as hell don't do it for the money.

hmmm let me think should i stay here safe behind a desk or go there and have an RPG ake out the car I am in and have my family see soem crazy Iraqis playing volleyball my charred corpse...or get kidnapped and threatened to be burned alive and have my family agonize for days wonderign what will happen to me....

hmmm tough choice.

seriously though i dont doubt the experrience woudl be a once in a life time thing with alot more rewards than monetary but havign kids i wouldnt purposely put my life in danger and not be here as they grow up or provide for them...but i do respect those that make the decision do go.

Yes. The only condition I would put on it is that they have to go shopping for my small list of ordinance, and I get to legally keep everything on my return to the USA.

Oh, and I would like an orbiting AC-130 Spectre for back-up.

if, for some strange reason, they had a need for great writers with English or Sociology degrees in Iraq, I'd be all over that :p

then again, I also tried to join the foriegn services with the understanding that I'd probably get sent to the middle east or africa.

I dont want a T-72. I want an M1A2 for my commuting needs.

There's road rage, and then there is effectively vented road rage ;)

No one has a need for someone with a degree in English ;).
