Bush was in Florida for an education conference, reports on NPR state that he is currently aboard Air Force one, destination unknown (for security reasons). He did make an initial statement before leaving, it's only about a 30 or 60 second sound bite, tho.

Violence will only bring more violence but the reaction to this better be drastic. The fact that they praise this act of destruction is sickening. If there is a god out there that would support such destruction then it's people will have the same fate. We're not going to nuc the bastards but they will pay and I hope they suffer.

Update from Charleston, SC. I work on the Naval Weapons Station here, and we have been shut down. All non-esseuntial personell have been asked to leave. I am home. Last I hear we were at Bravo condition, but they would ask us to leave unless it was Charlie.

historically Americans have always responded well to crisis or tragedy, meaning, we will see an end to the recession as a result of this tragedy, recessions are usually a function of peoples expectations, a tragedy like this gets our minds off our economic status and on the task at hand, in this case the rebuilding of the towers, the cleanup, etc etc will actually revitalize a sagging economy.

Mb it's just me looking at the silver lining, i'm not saying that what happened was a good thing, i'd never say that, but overall there will be a positive effect on the economy.

You can look at this in other ways as well. Yes this will bring back the US economy. But wouldn't a war or building up defenses do the same? Was this just a simple terrorist attack whose plans went unnoticed? Or did we know about it and just let it happen in hopes that the casualties would be limited? I mean wouldn't that be the best way to increase defense spending? Weren't they planning on cutting back the spending anyways?

Maybe it's just me but this smells alot like that book Executive Orders. Not sure if anyone's read that beast but it all started with a plane crash.....

Man this just makes you stop and think. It lets you realize what things are really important. My prayers go out to those families and for our nation. I do wish for severe retaliation for this. May God truly be with us during this time.

I'm talking to one of his/my friends that live there too. She said they don't live far from the Sears Tower but it's been evacuated and I guess it's okay for now. I was just worried. 🙁

All domestic nor international flights in Canada and US have been cancelled at all airports. Some Canadian and American airports are ONLY accepting flights and no departures are allowed at the moment. And yes, Canadian airports like Vancouver are accepting American flights already in air, but even that servicewill be shut down soon.The Mexican border has been shutdown also.
 
Due to the company I work at being related to some gov't we were all told to go home so I just got here to watch CNN for the day.
 
OMG!!!! Mere words don't work... my thoughts and prayers for those killed/hurt in these senseless attacks.

This is going to be worse than Pearl Harbor.

Of course it won't be worse than pearl harbor. These particular acts are yes, but PH ended up with the US joining the world war. This will not be the start of a world war.

Anyway there is really nothing the US can do but retaliate. Of course it won't be by nuclear attack because a target needs to be identified first but sometimes you really do need fire to fight fire. If the US does nothing now its an invitation for the rest of the terrorists in the world to do the same thing. I hope that each and every person responsible for this is hunted down.

Regarding the assasination law I also agree that in some cases it should be suspended. If the US needs to send in some guys to go and kill bin laden illegal so be it. I don't think much of the world is gonna complain.
