Was on a promotion with my local cable co for $35/mo including tax for 10/1 internet and basic cable with free HD. Great deal and when we signed up last year were were assured the rate would be good for at least 12 months. Well she lied, its now bumped up to $63 only 6 months in so were shopping around as $63 for internet and basic is just a bit too much money for a bit too little.

FIOS has been killing us lately with mail ads and I've started looking at them. Came across an offer today that didn't seem too bad.

15/5 Internet
Prime HD (~200 channels w/ 40 HD)
HD DVR
------
$69.99 months 1-3
$89.99 months 4-12
$99.99 months 12-24

With no contract

The closest my cableco could come was $84 w/ no DVR

Any opinions from those who have it?

I have FIOS triple play. TV/Internet/Phone. I have also added a cell phone for the wife. I have added kids channels, faster internet 25 down/10 up (I think) and an extra receiver.

I switched from comcast. I have signed a 2 year deal on it all and am paying ~$185 per month.

Their phone service is phone service.
Their TV service is TV service.
Their cell phone coverage is probably the best in America (especially on the east coast).

I consider these 3 services largely a commodity now.

I have noticed that when the internet is fast, it is so much faster then I have ever had before. However, when it has too much latency, I really notice it.

I have been on comcast for years and like their sustained bandwidth - never seemed to slow down.

When my contract runs out 1.5 years from now, will switch back to Comcast and get the latest and greatest deal from them.

Verizon was hooked up with no issues where it took comcast months to get it right.

Verizon's bill has had some inaccuracies on it that I have had to fix. This past month was the 1st one where nothing was wrong. They fixed them, but would have cost me $100+ if I hadn't noticed them.

had FIOS over 2 years now... the only negative for them is the $15 in taxes that Cablevision didn't have to charge. Well they also had the 2-year contract for me which I fortunately finished before my move. No downtime, ever. Worth every non-taxed penny.

I only have fios internet. Like a horribly reliable girlfriend, it's never *ever* gone down on me. Well... except...

The only gripe I have is that their electronic billing system never EVER charges my card properly. It's like it just... ignores charging my monthly bill to my bank account until it's time to disconnect. Conveniently, I forget that I need to be giving Verizon money every month (all my bills are auto-pay so I don't have to remember to pay them), so every six months or so my internet gets turned off and I have to pay $500 to get it turned back on.

lawl. I suck.

I freakin love their service, though. Faster ping most of the time than Comcast, for me. Comcast had shitty ping, spotty service, and a bigger bill so switching was a no-brainer.

Make sure the deal wasn't only for the first 6 months as most do it even if the person said that as you have no proof the person said it when they have it on paper saying the first 6 months was that cost.

Also unless you plan on paying a huge fee you won't be canceling it anytime soon for early cancellation.

Once you go FiOS, you never go back.

This

Internet is fast as hell, quality of picture of tv is much better then DirecTV/Dish Network, and it saved me money but it might not for everyone. Also the FiOS app on your phone is great so you can set things to record and view what's going to be on tonight and see what's in your DVR. I also have the 15/5 internet but get downloads faster then advertised which is great.

Do you guys have the home media DVR? Is the worth the extra $5 over the standard HD DVR?

I already stream my crap (music/photos) to the PS3 so if i only have 1 TV is it worth it?

I have the Home Media DVR but don't stream anything to it and makes no sense if only have one tv as the biggest reason to get it and the only reason why I have it is to stream recordings from it to other set-top boxes on other tv's in the house as it saves me money so I only need one DVR for 4 tv's.

ahhh, another question.

Do they charge to change shit? Lets say we get another HDTV for the bedroom in 8 months, can I just mosey on down to the big V location and pick up a new box for the bedroom?

For a new DVR they might but I went from a Digital Adapter to a Set-top box in one room, ordered it online for free, hooked it up when it arrived, and that was all. Check online first in your Verizon account through the website as they might try to charge you in person or over the phone as they tried to do that to me but was free ordered on the website.

Their prices are bullshit. They will find excuses to jack them up after you sign on. Been fighting with them for months now. No results. If I had the money I'd sue them, but then again, if I had enough money for that I probably wouldnt sweat 30 bucks a month. Something tells me they plan on this.

Seriously, if you arent getting totally screwed over by your current provider, dont switch.
If you do switch its just a new form of thievery.
