They have them convinced otherwise. I have in-laws in the south and they are FAR right, yet most of them are on things the right wants to take away. One is on disability, and I think he could prob work. One is USPS employee who is going to retire with a good size pension. Not a single one of them probably makes > $50-60K. At least 3 of them are on subsidized Obamacare and truly think their rates are going to drop when Obamacare is repealed, yet their are older sick people... really? You really think that? They read far right websites that are full of lies and Obama was the devil BTW.
I might make a decent amount and am upper middle class, just one of the shrinking middle class. However, I don't doubt for a second that current R path would not help me. Some may consider me "liberal" but I don't define myself as that. I think the spectrum has just shifted so far right that even middle is what the right used to be. I would consider myself fiscally conservative with socially liberal leaning policies. But on that same note, I lean towards some liberal ideas, because I think some of them could save us money if we stood up to corporations and this oligarchy we have. I have voted prob 60/40 across party lines based on the candidate not the party. Well except in IL, I took party into account because this bullshit /w the budget makes me want to puke, raising taxes yet not cutting any spending, We have nothing but corrupt politicians on both sides and it's not going to end well.
