My eyes hurt like a bastard. I can't get the little SOBs in or out of my eye under 40 minutes with my eyes red as hell

Is it like that at first for everyone? My eyes seem especially sensitive. I don't look good in glasses either though. I might just go without either.

It takes a few days to get used to them. Build up your tolerance for them by wearing them for short times at first.

As for taking them out, be patient. I can put in and take contacts out very quickly, but it was a little slow when I first started wearing them.

First time in contacts sucks. It took me a few months to get used to them. I just tried blinking and moving my eyes around in different ways and figured out what not to do. Sometimes if I rub my eyes the contact gets stuck in my eye socket on the side of my eye and is extremely annoying. You'll learn over time how to handle them, it just takes practice.

Putting them in and taking them out is just an acquired skill. I love my contacts and would have a hard time switching back to glasses full time.

I takes a few days to get over the initial weirdness. In a week you won't notice them unless you think about them. A bit later you won't even feel them.

I can put my contacts in in about 1 second each. I don't feel them at all.

It took me a couple week for the whole weirdness thing to go away. It was worth it though...Now my eyes feel funny when I dont have my contacts in.

First rule with putting them in is to let the contact get sucked onto the eye. If your finger touches the eye, then you should reseat the contact on your finger and try again.

What contacts are you using? I used Acuvue and the hurt like HELL!!! Switched to O2 Optics and WOW...extended wear contacts and they are COMFORTABLE! Never notice Im wearing them...been wearing the same pair for 6 months, never have taken them out! And yes its safe...Ive had more than one doctor tell me so...as long as they arent irritating you you can keep them in as long as youd like, even when sleeping and what not.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND O2 OPTICS! I was not paid to endorse them, they are just that damn good!

Contacts were awkward at first, but I don't remember having as big of a problem as you seem to be having, OP.

I got my first pair when I was 13.

stopped wearing them consistently ~23. Never could find a pair that didn't fuck with my eyes after that.

here's a suggestion: no matter what anyone tells you, do NOT make a habit of sleeping with them in. ...even if you pass out. do whatever it takes, drunk off your ass or not, risk of tugging on your cornea (it happens), just get those fuckers out before sleep.

You should only wear them for a couple of hours a day for a week or so at first.

Also carry eye drops with you, they will help immensely.

I'd suggest using the hydrogen peroxide (Clear Care) cleaning solutions too, rather than the saline based ones. Some people can develop allergic reactions to the preservatives used in the saline based solutions over time. No reason to expose yourself to that. Plus the hydrogen peroxide based ones are the only real true rub-free solutions.

I wouldn't endorse one brand like that. Everyone's eyes are different and everyone responds differently to different brands. The best advice is to try as many different brands as you can until you find one that is the most comfortable for you.

Acuvue is the most comfortable for me...

Eye doctors are usually sent free samples by the manufacturers, so you should be able to try them all out.

I'd also suggest changing doctors if one said it was ok to sleep in your contacts. That's just opening yourself up to infections.

I had a hard time learning how to put them in, but they were never painful. What does your eye doc say about it?

i have to wear them once a week for hockey... i have Focus daily one-day lenses. at first putting them in was a pain in the ass... your eye just keeps trying to close because it's thinking WTF IS GOING ON AHHHH :awe:

you get used to it though... i squirt a bit of solution onto the contact in the palm of my hand, pick it up with my index finger and balance it on there (it will stick to it no problem), hold your eye open with your other hand and slap it in... bam you're off to the races... i can do it really quick now.. within a minute or so (i'm pokey) :D

Contacts are a PITA. I used them for a few years, but went back to glasses. Much less hassle.

When I first got contacts, I could put them in almost instantly.
They were also ones that could stay in a few days, and when out were cleaned with clear care... just make sure it reacts fully.
I know someone once used it in a regular contact lens holder since they thought it was just normal stuff... lets just say H2O2 in the eyes is bad.

While they are in my eye, they are all easy pretty comfortable. But Acuvue 2's are the only ones I can take out without much hassle.

They keep trying to tell me how much better the other brands are, but they just suck IMO.

I love my contacts and they actually protect your eyes from any foreign objects getting in your eye fairly well. Only situation I don't like contacts is when I am swimming.

I was in the same boat as you OP. It wasnt the contact hurting so much as the repetitive tries to get the contact in that would irritate the eye. It used to take me probably 15-20 minutes to get them in. But just keep practicing and your eyes will just become accustom to it. I can actually touch my eyeball now without problems just cause my eye is used to that action.

If they really hurt when just wearing them id go see the doctor, if its just getting in and out then just keep practicing and itll get better.

And at first i highly recommend just starting by wearing them for short periods. An hour or two at a time to get used to them. Then after a day or two of that just go till they start getting uncomfortable. Before long youll be wearing them all day.

Make sure your hands are clean before attempting to put them in or taking them out. Also use re-wetting drops if the contacts feel too dry. It's hard to take out if they're dry.
