Contact wearers: How long do you use/wear them?

The other contact thread about etchings made me think of this:

What's the longest you've worn your contacts before throwing them away or taking them out? And does anyone actually throw them out in two weeks? I have two week disposables, but I wear a pair for at least 2 months. Longest I've gone without taking them out is 2 days b/c if I go to sleep with them in they dry out and I can't see. However, my roommate says he's had his 2 week disposables in for 5 months and he even sleeps with them in.

My eyes get sooooooooo dry if I leave my contacts in when I sleep. I literally peel the sleep snot crap that gets in your eyes off when I wake up.

I usually wear my two week disposables for about 2 months on average. Once they start to irritate my eyes I throw them away. The new ones feel sooo nice once that 2 month period roles around.

I also wear my 2 week disposables for a few months. Occassionally they fall out a few times and I'll either throw them away or leave them off overnight. But the rest of the time I just leave them on. My lenses are often foggy for about a minute after I wake up.

I usually cant wear mine for longer than 10 hours... They always get foggy and my eyes start to ache...

Mine are meant to last 3 months. I get about 4 pair per year. I wear them for about 4 months each. Unless I get lazy and don't clean them properly often enough.

EDIT: I never leave them in while sleeping, except for a few unscheduled naps, or when I sleep on long rides. Wear them from 8am - 1am usually.

you can get nasty nasty infections that way.

it is important you take them out each day because contact lenses block any oxygen permutation into the eye which is unhealthy.

i've had LASIK however the longest i've had my old contacts in was about 24 hours without taking them out and cleaning them.

I'm basically like everyone else. I wear my 2-week disposables at least a couple of months. The longest I've gone without taking them out is about 2 weeks. Lately tho' my eyes have been hurting more than usual so now I don't wear them longer than a couple of days at a time. I got an eye infection once a few years ago, so now I'm a lot more careful about cleaning them when I take them out, and I know when to take them out too if that infection-y feeling comes to my eyes.

My sister used to wear hers constantly for like 3-4 months at a time until she got an eye infection. She takes them out regularly now... 😀

Not true. Any lens that is gas permeable (all currently sold on the market are) allow your eyes to "breathe". It used to be that rigid contact lenses were not gas permeable so they could only be worn less than 12 hours are they would really start to irritate your eyes. I wear rigid gas permeable lenses and can usually get a set to last 2-3 years and I wear them for about 16 hours a day.

i wear my acuvues at least a month. when they get blurry and uncomfortable, it's time to throw them away.

I've got the two week disposables, I wear them until they either crack or start to hurt, which is usually about a year. I wear them to bed probably 3 or 4 nights a week, they never bother me, I love 'em. 🙂

About 8 years ago though I wore them for 2 weeks straight and got a nasty eye infection, haven't worn them for more than 3 days in a row since then. 🙂

I've got some Cooper Vision whatevers. They're supposed to be one month per pair and you can sleep in them. You're supposed to take them out one night a week just to let your eyes rest, but I sometimes forget. I've stretched a couple pair as long as two months before, but never longer than that. These things are EXTREMELY thin (way thinner than my previous 2 week disposables) and are great because they allow your eyes to really breathe. At some point, I plan on
getting laser correction surgey (probably once I hit 30), but until then I'm quite happy with these. The only thing I don't like is when one decides to go swimming up under my eyelid. Ever have that happen? With my old 2 week contacts it was easy to get them back out, but these are so thin it's tough to fish them out.

I wear 2 week disposibles for 1 week without taking them out(what they were designed for), then I put in a new pair. You guys are nuts, using the same pair of disposibles for months?

What is your perscription? I want laser surgery too, but probably will never get it because of the $. I hope your vision is as bad as mine, otherwise I would be extremely jealous/bitter with you.

CY - 175 <-------wish i knew what these meant. Is my perscription in that? Dangit, I should find out.

I'm wearing RGB lenses... the ones that arent disposable. I heard they were better for your eyes and the help prevent them from getting worse. Seems to be working.

I keep mine in usually for 18-19 hours a day. I dont really clean them, just squirt solution onto them. I sleep with them occasionally when i'm REALLY lazy, but my eyes get slighly irritated/dry if I do it.

I usually keep mine in for more than a couple months straight. I don't really keep track, I just know that I sleep with them in, don't hardly ever have them out, except for when I rub my eyes really vigorously and one pops out. This past year I had worn glasses for about 2 monthes straight, prior to that, months and months of contacts. I had an eye exam around sept of 2001, before that, the last eye exam(when I purchased contacts last) was probably early '98. So I was basically wearing my daily wears since then. I wasn't able to sleep with my contacts in my early contact wearing days. My eyes would be so dried out and crusted over I couldn't take the contact out without tearing it. Now I just blink once or twice and all is fine. Who need's Lasik when you can do that.

i had mine for about 2 years
i can wear them only for like at most 8 hours a day on the average

i have hard contacts though

2 weeks disposables here. On average they probably last about 3 weeks now. I made a 12-months supply last 30 months a few years back, and I was that way for a while. Now I think that was a stupid thing to do. I think my eyes are more sensitive now. 🙁

Wow! :Q Most of you guys have me beat! I only wear my 2 week contacts for a month and I thought that was bad.. I used to get lazy and sleep in them once or twice a month a long time ago. Now I usually take them out before 12am and switch to an old pair of glasses which works fine while at computer or reading.

While on the subject of contacts, can someone recommmend an online site (good and cheap) that I can order contacts from? I wear Bausch & Lomb Optima FW contacts.

i wear em each day for 18 hrs, and keep the same pair in for 3-4 months, its a helluva lot cheaper that way, and they work just fine

i ahve two month long contacts

i susally wear them longer than that....i just kinda forget and i wear the like 8 hours a day ro so...

Yeah they work, but that doesnt mean its good on your eyes. Contacts aren't that expensive, $100 a year or so, IMHO its stupid to wear disposibles for months, it can cause problems.
