Well, yesterday I decided to take the plunge and ditch my glasses for contacts.

All was going well until the lady who was showing me how to put my contacts in
doused the lense for my right eye in cleaning solution!

My eye still burns and it is very red.

It clearly states on the box do not put in eye

I would suggest you stab her, but i suspect that's worth of a ban these days...so don't 😉

I hope you mildly chastised her at least?

I tried contacts, and while i use them for the beach or fishing out on the boat when i want to wear my sunnies, i don't bother otherwise.
 
I am kind of tired wearing my glasses riding my dirt bike and while boating, was really looking forward to getting them.

I guess I will be waiting a few more days.

It was kinda funny I guess...she was like can you get it out, and i said hell no, I cant even open my eye🙂
 
By cleaning solution I assume you mean that made specifically for contacts. If not, I hope you flushed your eye good with water for several minutes.

Its for contacts, but you are not supposed to get it in your eyes. The contacts are supposed to soak in the solution for at least six hours, after that the solution neutralizes itself...so it doesnt burn your eyeballs out of your head.

 
there are different types of cleaning solutions, some of which is ok to put in your eyes. did the bottle have a red tip on it? usually the ones you're not supposed to put in your eyes has a red tip
 
well that particular woman was an idiot. but it may simply take your eye some time to get used to the chemicals. i have two solutions:

one solution that i renew everyday that cleans the contacts from the smaller stuff

and an acicidic compound that i put every weekend that takes care of the nastier stuff and really takes the proteins apart.

contacts are great. you just need to get used to them.

Well, if you have to wait 6 hrs for the solution to react with that little piece in the contact case then yes, it was hydrogen peroxide. 🙂

I have the same setup and it definately most comfortable contact cleaning solution I've had in years...the only thing I could compare it to would be the heat treated contacts I've used.
 
I would get absolutely furious. That is gross negligence, putting ACID in your eye and brushing it off. I'd see an opthamologist now! I hope you saw appropriate medical attention immediately. If you didn't I would demand to talk to the supervising doctor and explain the situation and I would expect to get all my money back at the very least. I would then find a new place to go to with competent staff. Oh man I seriously hope they at least flushed your eye with water for 5-10 minutes.
 
Been wearing gas perm contacts for 17 years. Way better than glasses, but I've been thinking about lasik recently.

I use acuview2, and just normal multipurpose solution is fine (the no rub kind).
 
The only time I've ever had eyeball melting pain from contacts was the one time that I used an antihistamine based eye drops about 20 minutes before putting contacts in. I guess I still had that stuff in/on my eye when I put the contacts on.

Something in that eye drop fluid mixed with the cleaning chemicals on my contacts and made for a bloody wicked combination of flaming pain.

That was one of the few times my wife had ever heard me actually scream out in pain.

So learn from my errors - antihistamine eye drops + contacts = bad. Mmmmmmmkay?

Depends on the person. Contacts have never been as "sharp" as glasses for me. I can't read a book or view a computer screen comfortably with contacts due to astigmatism.
 
You need BSS (basic saline solution) if you want to rewet your contacts in your eye.. you basically put peroxide in your eye. That solution needs 6 hours to neutralize before it is safe to put the contact back in your eye.
 
If given ample time to neutralize are these hydrogen peroxide solutions more comfortable? I'm a fairly new contact wearer and a lot of time I will get an uncomfortable feeling or dryness when I have my contacts in. I don't have the box with me but I'm pretty sure they Oasis or one of the other kinds made for dry eyes so I'm not sure what else to do. Maybe I need a different cleaning solution.

My wife has astigmatism, and while normal contacts do the same things to her vision, they make special astigmatism contacts that are awesome. Just as good or better than your glasses.

I split time between glasses and contacts. Mine come in the little single blister packs with the sterile solution (maybe they all do?). I didn't know that stuff was bad for your eyes so I just popped it in. Horrible burning pain.
 
I use a multipurpose solution for soaking and for rewetting/cleaning off a contact before putting it in my eye. The burning sensation could possibly go away with time since you aren't used to it yet, or try another solution brand to see if that helps.

I think they're more comfortable. Allergies and the nature of my job (looking at computer screens all day) have left me with slightly dry eyes and my optometrist switched me to the peroxide solution and had me change lens brands. Talk to your optometrist about the problem...that's what your office visit is for. 🙂

I've found that the two-step (peroxide for cleaning + saline rinse) make the contacts much nicer to wear. I tried a one-bottle solution, and my lenses just felt, well - dirty.
