I'm new to the word of soft, disposable monthly contacts and am wondering what solution people use and if there's really a difference.

I was given a trial size of Bausch & Lomb's Biotrue (http://www.bausch.com/en/Our-Produc...pose-Solutions/Biotrue-multi-purpose-solution).

I was also given a trial size of Opti-Free Replenish (http://www.opti-free.com/contact-solution.aspx)

While at the store, I saw the other major one places carry is Bausch & Lomb's Re-Nu (http://www.bausch.com/en/Our-Produc...e-Solutions/Renu-fresh-multi-purpose-solution)

Anyone use one of these, or something different? And is there any reason one is better or not than the others?

I use OptiFree Express, and I really have no idea how it's different than Replenish...I can't tell a difference, I've tried both. For some reason my ophthalmologist said to use Express (mine aren't disposable, but I know it's fine for that). It feels a bit "smoother" than what I used to use (Complete).
 
Most of it is the same unless its a special type. My wife has used the name brands and store brands from wal-mart and Costco and they all work the same for her.

Costco has been the cheapest so I buy that for her now.

Same here. I've used both OptiFree types and don't know what the difference is supposed to be.
 
never had any problems with any brand. Costo rebrands one of the major ones too I believe. Beware if you have sensitivities to particular ingredients as costco is known to switch sources but package is always the same.
 
We use equate no-rub which is the walmart store brand. Our eye doctor says its fine to use as its also just a rebranded major label. I think its like $4.50 for 2 bottles. i think one bottle of ReNu is close to that price.

Is there a reason why your not using hard or semi-hard lenses?

I have been wearing semi-hard Boston lenses since around 1982. On average I get about 3 years out of each set.

Probably because soft disposables work great for a lot of people and are a lot easier to wear?
 
Just grab what ever they have in your local BJ's/Costco/Sam's Club. You'll need a lot of it so you might as well pick it up in bulk.

In the past I've used generic solution. This last time my doctor said to use Opti-Free Replenish and NOT to get generic because she said there was no generic equivalent.

No idea, I never ended up filling my prescription anyway as contacts suck.
 
Honestly, the flat-type cases and their solutions are the worst. They keep the proteins in the case and barely do anything about it. The best type of lens cleaning is the ClearCare. It's a Hydrogen Peroxide mix that will eventually turn into a pH balanced mix overnight. It also has a vertical lens case that keeps the lenses from sitting in the removed protein over night. (Lenses MUST be kept in there for at least 6 hours and it is not to be used directly on the lens before putting in the eyes). Other than that, theres no more difficulty than the flat type. This stuff is the only stuff that I have found that makes the lenses feel close to what they felt like when you first opened them up. Do you really want your lenses sitting in your eye-crud all night without something actively cleaning it?

I use the cheap brand to rinse the lenses, no soak, as you can't use the ClearCare for overnight cleaning.

Clear Care is overwhelmingly the best, but it's expensive and has a 6 hour wait period after the cleaning starts.

What's the hassle? You put the L&R lens in the cradle, fill vile with Clear Care, mate the two together and when you get up in the morning it's ready. Well worth the effort to have clean and disinfected lenses.

Let's me us my contacts for way more then a month too.

Re-nu sucks. I never had more eye problems then when using that solution.

Yea I recommend Clear Care too. Use it nightly and get some plain saline solution for everything else.
 
I use Opti-Free. I used Complete for the first few years I had contacts, but that stuff started to wreck my eyes. It literally felt like my contacts were covered with sand and were scratching my eyes.
 
Just buy the cheapest ones. I bought some non brand name version from albertsons, two 12oz bottles for like $4.

One Bausch/Lomb bottle alone is like $6+.

There's no difference between contact solution.
 
opti free makes contacts float around on my eye a lot. I like re-nu the best by far. i use 2-week contacts.

Because you can sleep in the new 30 day lenses, and you only really have to take them out once a week or so to clean them?

Can't use it for less than 6 hours, have to rinse them pretty thoroughly after removing from the solution...

It's a fine choice, I just never had any issue with the more traditional solutions and didn't see any added benefit for the hassle.
