My wife just went to an eye doctor and got the prescription for daily wear contact lens.

Her eye's are screwed up.. and needs toric lenses..

The one's she is using is extended wear..(she can wear it for 2 weeks and goes into the trash).

Here is her prescription..

right left

sph -4.75 -4
cyl -.75 -.75
axis 180 180
BC 8.5 8.5

She is currently using B & L lens..

I'd figure that it's cheaper to order it through the internet, but it's little hard to do.
Some doesn't even give you the option for BC.
The descriptions on the toric lenses are so vague, I'm not sure if they are extended wear or not.
I would also guess that they have to contact the doctor to verify the prescription.

Anyone know anything about the Toric lenses? Are they extended wear? Why are they so much more expensive than the regular lenses?

i order bausch and lomb torics (soflens 66) from 1800contacts (contacts.com) and have no problem. they have a place for every parameter (BC, SPH, CYL, AXIS). DIA is 14.5 for soflens 66 lenses.

they are 30 dollars a box, free shipping, and there's a $10 off 50 coupon floating around. (not that expensive)

two week disposables, but you can always just wear them until they get uncomfortable.

they are more expensive because the manufacturing process is more intensive, since they have to correct for astigmatism and the lenses have to be weighted so they only sit in the eye one way

I hate my astigmatism it makes wearing contacts one of the worst experiences. I have nothing but an astigmatism so it makes it even harder for me to get contacts. If I was near sided or far sided also it would help fit the contacts but no, not with my luck. I have to where my contacts for 3 months at a time because they are so expensive and can't be ordered through 1-800-contacts. Only three companies in the world make contacts that I can where. Arg I hate astigmatism.

If you find the lens descriptions to be too vague on the internet, why not call and have it shipped? It's just as quick and convenient, if not more so, than doing it online. I also use 1800CONTACTS and have had no probs with them. (well fortunately I also don't have the astigmatism) They'll answer all your questions and call your eye doctor for you to confirm your prescription.

People with astigmatism (I hate my astigmatism) have their cornea shaped like a football as opposed to a nice round disc. Until recently, soft contact lenses were not an option. Yes they cost more but still better than glasses.
