Consumer reports let me down.

I checked their ratings for coffee makers and they rate the Cuisinart DCC-1200 as excellent.

I bought this thing yesterday only to discover it has got to be one of the worst examples of engineering I have ever come across.

I'm so mad!

Whats with Consumer Reports here lately....ive been hearing all their stuff is all BS as of late. I used to read it a bit and trust them.

I like Consumer Reports for the most part. The biggest problem I have with them is there limited test ranges. It's almost to impossible to find the exact model they recommend sometimes. You have to read between the lines to find what will fit your needs.

They're also big fans of "ease of use", which needs to be taken with a grain of salt IMO. I rather have the better product over the easy to use product.

Excellent, with many features and an unusual design, but expensive.

Missed the "unusual design" comment, didn't you...

I just use CR as a reference, I disagree with a lot of their choices.

I bought the Mr. Coffee PLX20 $30 from Wally World so I could take it back if I didn't like it.

The latest issued reviewed V6 sedans. I believe the final standings were:

Best in test group: Chevy MALibu
Followed by
Kia Sedona
Ford Taurus
Chevy Impala
Pontiac Grand Prix

Among all family sedans, the Malibu was in 5th place behind the usual Accord, Camry, Altima, etc. CR actually liked it a lot. The Grand Prix was rated quite badly, which surprised me.

It shouldn't be too surprising. Most people agree that the Grand Prix is ugly, the interior is flimsy, and the reliability is about as bad as you can get. My wife had an early 1990s model Grand Prix. We couldn't drive it without something falling off - interior or exterior. We got multiple notices about DIFFERENT class action lawsuits that Pontiac lost over that years Grand Prix. Those were about minor little things such as design flaws in the breaks that cause the breaks to stop working suddenly - at least it wasn't anything major (I hope you see the sarcasm in that). The Grand Prix is a car that needs to be eliminated.

I enjoy reading Consumer Reports. Especially when it comes to things where I would never know what to buy. Take laundry detergent for example, who in the real world tests them all? I had no idea which was good until I read the CR on how great the powdered Tide with Bleach performed. I switched and couldn't be happier. On the other products I always read it skeptically. They point out some useful things that you may never have known - assisiting you in narrowing down your choices - but you certainly shouldn't use it like a bible only buying their top rated items.

I have a online subscription to their site.

A subscription that will NEVER be renewed.

I never really cared for them. I just must of had a momentary lapse of reason when I subscribed.

I've had a sub for years, for instance, the powder Wal Mart Dishwasher detergent outperforms just about everything & it's the cheapest.

Been using it for 6 months now, wouldn't even have known about it, except through CR.

Their forums suck though, and epinions.com could be a replacement if they organized their site better.
